I was still not happy with fitment and the seal around the tailgate. So, this morning I removed the factory trim, which allowed me to move the shell forward just a bit more. I am much happier with it, now I need to design and 3d print a new trim piece.
Agenda for the rest of the day is...
Got everything mocked up how I want it. Will get everything drilled tomorrow.
My brother is a wizard with fusion 360 and made a quick render of the shell. He will be 3d printing the lettering and the armadillo so we can attach them while the wood is still bare. Then we will make some gray...
I would have liked to match it up better, but the rear hatch I am working with doesn't line up with tailgate well. I had to extended it out to get a good seal, so I just kept it straight and easy. Rounding it off wouldn't have left much room for the hatch frame.
Had a little bit of time today to have the corners rounded out and everything ready for paint and bedliner. I'm Probably going to drill the holes for the cross bar mounts a little big and get the walls coated with the chassis saver and maybe some bedliner.
Think I'm also going to order some...
I bet that was a fun project, such a cool idea. Keep the original powertrain? Have a friend that just got a pair of flat fenders, hes going to love yours when I show him. Always nice when the wife is on board!
Roof was just a bit too wide for a full sheet of plywood, so I had to make a little T joint out of a 2x4. Coming together pretty well. I can easily put it on the jeep myself for now. Bed liner will add a bit more weight. Luckily the doors can easily slide off their frames so I can remove them...
Yes everything was glued to oblivion and back. And most everything is screwed from the inside going through the aluminum tubing. Everything screwed from the outside has already been covered up with wood filler and sanded down so you can't see much.
I should have the roof installed today. Then I will be rounding off the corners and edges and filling in the cracks and such with wood filler. Then It will paint prep and waiting for it to get here. Going to be about 12 hours or so worth of work when finished and around 600 bucks.
Yeah it is going to weigh a bit more than I'd like. But the S10 camper shell I found came with very large doors so there isn't going to be very much 3/4 plywood. I also ripped the 2x4s down some to save some weight. Trying to figure out how to post pictures now.
I have been wanting to get a camper shell for awhile now. I Just have not wanted the price tag that comes along with them. I want something heavy duty for a possible roof top tent build later this summer. So I found a 25 dollar s10 camper shell on Facebook market place and began to chop with a...
