Was searching for something elsewhere and came across this thread. Here’s a compatible billet fuel cap replacement. Might be easier to drain as well...
Yes, you can run 40s on stock D44s.
This Is my JTRD daily driver and I offroad on 40s. It’s running 4.56 gears; front axle is trussed, gusseted, RCV, Adam’s driveshaft, 2.5T tierod and drag link, and PSC steering; rear is stock plus Adams driveshaft. I recently drove ~5700miles cross country...
@VA6489 is running option #3 above and it performed perfectly on the Rubicon trail this year and looks great; he has NV rear bumper as well.. I have a NIB option #1 sitting in my garage waiting for warmer weather to install.
On my JTRD, I’m running 40” Cooper Discovery on stock Dana 44s front (RCV 300mm solid CV shafts, 4.56 Revolution Gears, Artec trussed and gussetted front, PSC steering), stock rear, Adam front and rear driveshafts, all on KMC Riots 17x9 (-18).
A group of us just completed a cross country trip...
I live in Northern VA and have hit Peter’s Mill quite a few times. A stock Jeep will do just fine on the trail. I’d like to join the group if able, please let me know the date you guys are planning. If you’re here for a couple of days, recommend hitting nearby Flag Pole or Potts Mountain.
you’ve provided some great information here Sean (@Primer Gray). Any chance you have a parts list, looks, and/or where you got the parts? Thanks in advance!

I’m running 40s on 17x9 with -18 offset with the Teraflex rear sway. Not a problem with appropriate bump stop set up.
Just ran the Rubicon in August with zero rub.
Carrier bearing spacers drop the driveshaft to bring it into proper alignment and is a cheap alternative to the 1350.
I didn’t upgrade my rear driveshaft on my current JTRD on 40s for 18k until I re-geared. I have had no problems with the OEM rear driveshaft to date.
