LSD being phased out and AWD being phased in
I have AWD on my Maverick. In Slippery mode it’s great for 95% of snow conditions but I put it into Sand mode when climbing steep hills in deep snow. This basically shuts off traction control and powers all 4 wheels. So closest to open diff 4WD...
Have to disagree with being jacked up and running aggressive AT’s.
most snow driving here is on compacted snow. If you stay within the tire widths you can get pretty good speeds and remain stable. Even going through deeper snow I find a true winter, like Blizzaks or Hakka r3’s, and a lower...
Yup. Each wheel being independently controlled by its own electric motor like the Rivian currently has will be the end of Lockers, LSD’s and 4WD as we know it
What is Quad-Motor Drive?
Four motors deliver instant power and independently adjust torque at each wheel for precise traction control...
I have ordered an Overland. It will be summer by the time it arrives I’m told.
has both LSD and full time 4WD so with Blizzaks it should be the best configuration for on road snow driving.
I think many here are mistakenly equating this to off road situations. I never go off road. I am driving in hardpack and often deeper snow but always on the road.
I am going to order the Overland with LSD and outfit it with the Blizzaks and see how it goes.
So you have the Willys and it comes standard with lsd like the JL Wranglers Willy’s. ?
I’m not seeing it on the Canada build site. Only Overland shows the LSD in the build.
It’s the slippage correction of LSD I miss on my daily commute. It’s all or mostly hardpack. Also I will never need a locker most likely.
I tried to build a Willys Gladiator on Jeep build Canada and I don’t see the LSD as an option????
I see it is an option on the Overland though.
Don’t all Jeeps have brake lock? Even my Maverick and old Tacoma have this. It’s pretty common. It’s great as an anchor point but not as good as power transfer.
tires are not the differentiator. I'm running Blizzaks which are the best, possibly second best to the Hakka R3's, winter tires avail without studs. Not a fan of 3 peak AT's, especially on hardpack.
What I don't get is how the full-time 4wd works with the Trac Lok LSD and Selec Trac working...
Don’t think I’d ever drive with a locker engaged on the road but haven’t really tried it. Possibly for getting unstuck I guess but I don’t get stuck.
not sure about the wear issue on LSD as it’s not off roading. Just correcting for snow/ice slippage.
Sometimes you just want traction control...
Yea. I may do that. Probably without adding the front locker though. Think I’ll be able to make the commute at higher speeds with more confidence
psi 32 so thanks. Will drop it
I don't really need people to tell me how great their Rubi is on snow. I don't feel stable. I have driven my brothers Sahara JLU with the factory LSD and it's a much more secure feeling.. Just to be sure it wasn't just the JLU vs Gladiator making a difference, I was able to trade my Gladiator...
There’s some areas that are almost straight ice and some pretty bad hardpack. I have Blizzaks installed but can’t use studded due to restrictions when I need drive into the city.
what’s the best option for adding an lsd ? Would be cheaper than trading in the Rubi likely.
Hi, so far not real impressed with the Rubi in snow conditions. I deal with ice and hardpack and deep snow daily, all on road. I don't really need the locker as I'm a good enough driver in snow not to get into a position where it's needed.
Just not a confident feel driving this rig in snow...
