  1. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

And I suppose all those little black lines are S- units that it's capable of (under ideal conditions of course). Just pull it out or push it in to tune on for whatever frequency you desire. We laugh but I remember watching a YT video of someone making a tape measure antenna.
  2. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

I am no radio guru but isn't that tape measure going to interfere with your signal LOL? I really appreciate your help as my concern was with Lairds advertised whip length of 31" plus the coil and spring,it would have put me over my garage limit. No worries now! In all honesty, before seeing...
  3. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

hjdca, Not sure if your still following this thread but I was hoping you could measure the OVERALL length of your Laird antenna. It seems I overlooked the fact that Laird only specifies the whip length and not the overall length of their antennas. You would think that the overall length would...
  4. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

Sarge, I suppose there is a fine line between "scared" and trying to "do it right the first time" LOL. Cooltech bracket gets a lot of support here and that's good enough for me. hjdca, That's one of the antennas I am interested in. It's 1/2 wave, no ground plane. Same as my 2M/440 antenna that...
  5. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

So, I am sold on the Cooltech bracket and drilling it out for the xxxxx FUD NMO mount recomended. The only decision left is the antenna. Larson has both a 1/2 wave no ground plane and a 5/8 wave no ground plane. Trying to understand the differences between them. The Diamond I have been using for...
  6. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

So, in my previous jeep (14 JK Rubicon RIP) all I ever used was an FT60 handheld with a Diamond NGP antenna on a spare tire carrier mount. Worked great mostly because there are so many ham repeaters in this area. But, for as many repeaters there is, there is very little radio traffic during the...
  7. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

Appreciate everyone's help and advice here! I did see the stock hole diameter on Cooltechs site is 1/2" and it seems most of the 90 degree/ low profile nmo mounts for sale are for a 3/4" hole. Since you were able to drill it out, I assume there is enough metal there not to weaken it. Seams like...
  8. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

Sounds like several people had failures of the Midland nmo/cable and that's reviews on their own website! So, after watching a couple YT videos about attaching connectors it seems a crimp tool isn't really necessary. Couldn't find any videos of attaching the coax to an nmo though. Would you...
  9. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

b-roc, Your experience with the Midland nmo/ cable is disappointing to hear. If I were to buy just the bracket and source an nmo mount and cable elsewhere how do you know what size to buy and what does the little round black thing do? A spacer or seal I would guess. I would also have to solder...
  10. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

b-roc-Could you provide a little more detail as to what broke on the Midland cable/nmo mount? After a pretty extensive search I believe the Midland coax provided with their nmo mount is RG58u. Cooltech also offers a kit that includes the bracket and a 10' shortened coax/nmo assy for front...
  11. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

Appreciate all the input so far especially beathan and hjdca. So far, the Cooltech mount is looking like my best option. My goal was to find a mount that : 1. Positions the antenna out of my line of sight when driving as much as possible. 2. Securely mounts a 31-33" no ground plane antenna...
  12. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

Sorry, not sure what happened there while posting. I know most would probably recommend a mount that places the antenna further forward but I have no desire to stare at an antenna "jiggling" around while driving. It seems like a cowl mounted antenna would be mostly hidden from view behind the A...
  13. Cooltech cowl antenna mount

I was wondering if anyone has tried the Cooltech ham/GRMS antenna mount for the cowl? Rugged Ridge has a similar one that gets bad reviews. Complaints of bending probably due to its thin aluminum construction. The Cooltech version is stainless steel so should be a little tougher. Would be using...
  14. Any one swapped out the chrome lug nuts ?

Just a couple more pics for anyone who might be interested. For whatever reason they look better in person than in the photos. I know I am in the minority having silver wheels but I like the look. Though I like the black wheel look on some vehicles, I kind of feel the whole black wheel thing is...
  15. Any one swapped out the chrome lug nuts ?

Andux lug covers installed today. Perfect ,very snug fit over the chrome lugs on my stock silver Sport S wheels. I did put a "dab" of silicon just on the ends of the chrome lugs before installing the silicon covers just for a little insurance. They look just like black lug nuts and give the...
  16. Any one swapped out the chrome lug nuts ?

Ordered the Andux covers. Will post my experience when they arrive. I have heard using silicon, hair spray, etc... to help make them more secure can help. Any tips or cautions would be appreciated.
  17. Any one swapped out the chrome lug nuts ?

So, the Andux 21mm lug nut covers fit the Gladiators 22mm lug nuts? I do think these look better than the other popular silicon covers. At least they look like a lug nut. The other ones are just round with a small nipple sticking out the end.
  18. Any one swapped out the chrome lug nuts ?

Anyone else try the black silicon covers that JTR178 used? Says on their site they only fit 21mm bolts. Gladiator's are 22mm I believe. Lot of Amazon users saying they fall off anyway.
  19. Gladiator specific Tyger roll up cover.

I do not want to appear critical of Tyger or my new bed cover. The quality of the vinyl cover itself, the mounting rails and hardware, the latching mechanism and even the packaging and instructions is excellent. The reasonable price was just a bonus. While I agree with the whole made in China...
  20. Gladiator specific Tyger roll up cover.

The Tyger Cleaner/Preservative was included in my cover purchase as a promotional thing. Of course in my case the $20.00 value of it was offset by having to buy $20.00 replacement foam to seal the front of the bed lol. Only a couple short trips ( no freeway) and it's a little dusty but this is...
