  1. JeePS - Offline Trail Carputer

I've been busy, so progress has been slow, but I should be ready to install this mess this weekend. Umbilicals between the monitor and PC are done. PC is mounted on a bracket that fits between the front seat rails. This also includes a 12v => 19.5v power supply and on/off relay. PC is...
  2. Jeep Unveils 7 Easter Jeep Safari 2023 Concept Vehicles, including Gladiator Rubicon Sideburn Concept and Scrambler 392 [Updated w/ Videos]

Who needs a trail cam when you could just have someone sit on the Sideburn front grill/seat thingie and waive their arms around to indicate to go? If they call the model the "Sideburn", maybe the grill/seat should be called the "goatee".
  3. Anyone ever consider doing a Rally-cross with the Gladiator?

I was reviewing rules last week, just out of curiousity. For stock classes, there isn't a specific minimum Track/Height limit, but there is this general statement below. It seems it would be highly dependant on how comfortable the chair/steward was with letting you run. Probably based on the...
  4. JeePS - Offline Trail Carputer

I hadn't seen this. I've only had a few minutes to look at it a little bit. I definitely will spend more time with it. I'm not opposed to doing something different if it works better. I'll finish out this project, since I'm close to being done, but just about everything could be re-purposed...
  5. JeePS - Offline Trail Carputer

Messing around trying to get the UI as usable as possible. Windows has a lot of shortcomings for anything on a small screen. Tablet mode isn't any better than desktop mode. The biggest challenge is making everything as large as possible. As everyone knows, aiming your finger at a touch...
  6. What did you do WITH your Gladiator today?

Found a super rocky trail up to an overlook of the Colorado River, downstream of Hoover Dam.
  7. JeePS - Offline Trail Carputer

More dodgey bodges - This time on the monitor end. I want to be able to unplug and remove the monitor easily, since I don't want to drive around with it installed all the time. Vesa monitor mount and arm are from Ram Mounts. On the monitor: Red is just 5v power. I ran this through the...
  8. Am I crazy for thinking I want a Gladiator?

Another former Golf R owner here: The thing with performance cars, is it's tough to fully enjoy thier performance on the street in a legal way. Long story short, I drove like an asshole every time I got behind the wheel. I'm lucky I didn't end up with a huge ticket or worse. Also, after...
  9. Wind noise reduced 70%

Hmm, I might need to look into this. My Mojave was quiet, until I had to I had to make the non-funcional hood scoop functional. I'm guessing additonal air + removal of the hood insulation is aggrevating places suseptable to noise. Yah, I could block it off again, but maybe this will work...
  10. A Mojave everone can afford

This is clearly a typo, but even the normally advertized pricing in bold letters is deceptive. When I purchased mine (from Chapman), they tried to explain that this is with all the possible incentives and discounts, many of which I didn't neccessarily qualify for. The details are in the fine...
  11. JeePS - Offline Trail Carputer

PC bodge done: I connected a socket to the front panel on/off/reset switch (yellow boxes.) This will be extended to the monitor location so I don't need to reach under the seat to turn on the computer. I installed the GPS reciever where the hard drive would normally go. it's mounted on a...
  12. JeePS - Offline Trail Carputer

    Commencing with phase I bodgework.
  13. What did you do TO your Gladiator today? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

I fabricated an overlanding equipment organizer made of a cellulose composite material. I also applied a latex based polymer outer coating to protect it from ultraviolet radiation.
  14. What did you do TO your Gladiator today? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Finished rear seat platform and door protectors for dogs, built from plastic/wood composite. It's fairly easy to remove in a few minutes. I also have moving blankets to toss in for padding (not shown.)
  15. JeePS - Offline Trail Carputer

Forest? Is that where lots of trees grow? 90% of the places around 'Vegas are half dead creosote bushes. ..Sorry, I'm just being a smart ass now (LOL)
  16. JeePS - Offline Trail Carputer

Good stuff - I'll look into some of these more. I'm always on the hunt for sources of good data. One goal with this, also, is to eliminate the need for commercial software or services. ERSI stuff is great, but also expensive. QGIS is free, exceptionally powerfull, and I know it inside and...
  17. JeePS - Offline Trail Carputer

I played with it a little, but it looks more or less the same as OnX. It looks handy if you have cell service, but unless I grab huge areas to download for offline use, it's limited for what I want it to do. What I'm after is to have everything I want available as soon as I boot without...
  18. JeePS - Offline Trail Carputer

Here's a rundown of the GIS data for the project: I'm located in Clark County, Nevada, so I've assembled information for the surrounding counties. If I plan to go outside of this, I'll need to assemble more: Focusing on Clark County, here's USGS topo. These are 20-meter contours, with color...
