Cheap 12v, the kind you hook directly to the battery via alligator type clamps, with a higher PSI rating. Think it's a 150psi rated or something like that. Takes a few minutes per tire, if you're way down. You can spend 3 times as much on nice compressors to save 4 minutes though. Joking aside...

Because I have them around I use them on all kinds of things. On the jeep its usually used as touch up on aftermarket bumper or steps when I scratch/chip them. Find an industrial one like markal or something.

If they don't specifically state that the recovery points are flat tow capable, then I would say they are not rated for it. Or at least not officially DOT rated for such things even if the points are good enough to hold. That opens up issues if it is not DOT rated, if ever get into an accident.
