It's best to apply UV protection to all exposed rubber or plastic parts as part of your normal washing routine. That is if you actually wash the Jeep. I use a product: Wash Wax All on both my Jeeps and RV. Have done so on previous ones, with little UV damage to any of them.

If you're off roading a lot, I would suggest a spare to match your other tires. If not you are in no worse a situation than this that have a temporary donut tire to use when you have a flat. Having the odd sized tire on the ground should encourage you to get the original tire repaired.
