You guys that are just fine with the hardware remaining in place "as long as I don't have to push a button" have never had the aux battery decide to randomly sperg out and take out your main battery.

There is a cost for an unlock code to use the Tazer on any additional vehicle.
https://www.zautomotive.com/products/unmarry-key
I went to that link and it says:

The unmarry key is needed if you purchase a Tazer second hand and it is still married to another vehicle...

Emphasis mine. In other words if you unmarry it before you remove it the settings you changed will not be lost and then the Tazer can be used on another vehicle. Only the "Live Features" will be lost. Start/stop is a setting. Not a live feature.

AI Overview
Vehicle settings modified by a
ZAutomotive Tazer JL/JT that persist after "unmarrying" (unplugging) include tire size, gear ratios, TPMS thresholds, light configurations (LED/halogen), and other vehicle-specific upgrades. These, termed "Vehicle Settings," are saved directly to the Jeep's computer, whereas "Live Features" require the device to remain plugged in.

My understanding is that a Tazer can be married to a Gladiator, change the setting for stop/start and then be unmarried. The setting will remain as programmed and the Tazer will be available to marry to another vehicle many times as long as it is unmarried each time.

Dealer constraints would probably stop them from changing factory settings, but it seems to me that an enterprising independent shop might want to have a Tazer in their toolkit for changing setting like start/stop and pick up a few extra shillings.

Start/stop joins the graveyard of wrongheaded innovations like the seat belt ignition interlock.

For you youngsters out there, the seat belt interlock... never mind.
ESS turn-off is a Tazer Live Feature. The Tazer has to be connected for it to function. It is not a computer setting that can be turned on and off.

I have a 2025, so it has it and it's disabled with my Tazer. I am curious if this means the dealer could just disable it now if it's not mandated.
The only thing you will likely see is ESS remembering on or off across startups on future vehicles. Stellantis is unlikely to put any effort into changing existing vehicles. There is already an aftermarket that handles that.

ESS is part of the system. It cannot be disabled or removed. It is always active. The only thing that can be controlled is whether the engine is allowed to turn off when ESS calls for it. The button on the dash is there to give you a choice. The government requirement for Stellantis to get credit for using ESS is that it resets at every startup. There are multiple options available to override the startup reset.

I'm sure those who've extolled the benefits of this technology will have the integrity and foresight to pay out of their own pockets to install it on their future cars as a worthwhile mod, if only to increase resale value.

Just like presidential executive orders, these changes may be reversed with a change of administration.

Considering that stop/start was created to cheat CAFE fuel economy requirements by shutting down during the idling parts of the test loop, it's no surprise the manufacturers want to hang on to it.

Until the CAFE requirements are changed we will probably be stuck with it.

On a brighter note, the stop/start eliminator I ordered Friday was shipped from Amazon San Marcos, Texas and arrived here today Monday in Deep East Texas.

This 78-year old man was able to install it.
You have to hold your mouth right.

Just bought a 2026 Mazda CX-30 at Christmas. Mazda had dumped start/stop and cylinder deactivation on the new models. Wouldn't have made the buy if they hadn't. Very little difference in mpg rating between '25 and 26' and even less in real world driving.

It would be great to see a software patch to make existing and vehicles made in the immediate future have the stop/start a latching selection feature like you can the Aux switches. Everyone knows it should have been that way to start with.

Or when it does going down highway at 55 in traffic then shuts vehicle off and puts transmission in park. I could add a few pages to this thread on that and following results along with service dept at dealership.:mad:

I had unmarried my Tazer but left it connected. My ESS switch would still remain in the last position it was in. My passive entry no longer functioned with the Tazer unmarried and plugged in. I would have thought the ESS switch would be on by default after I unmarried the Tazer.
