Not really sure how to title this. Also, should be in the @Discount Tire forum but there's a little extra to it and didn't want to take from their glory.
I've been in auto forums for 20+ years and one thing I've found is, you get the die hard fans of a particular vehicle OR those who come to tell their stories of doom and gloom and then pop smoke and leave. Both have their value in these forums and yes, we see kudos to various companies but I just wanted to share my recent fantastic experiences -- especially when the world is nutty right now, it helps me at least, pause and realize that there is good in this world, still.
It was time that the Mojave picked up new shoes so I reached out to Don at @Discount Tire. Between monthly deals and military discount, it was a no brainer to go with them. I've used Discount before and they've been great. BUT...we're in 2022. Supply chain issues, political firestorms, inflation, etc has impacted really, almost everything. As such, TPMS sensors were delayed. No big deal. Don kept awesome comms with me. Finally wheels and tires arrive and all is great....except, the TPMS sensors aren't reading. Some back and forth via PMs and it's decided I take it into a (kinda) local Discount which was an hour away. I made the trip because I had friends in the area and everything was square. Throughout all of this, Doug chimed in to help get things moving in the right direction. When I him know all was well after my visit, he contacted me and is making the world right.
To me, this goes above an beyond customer service. Sure, it should be expected to make things right and I knew that would happen but the way it happened, was, to me, great! It is refreshing when a company values their reputation and customer focus. Not that the "customer is always right" because that's trash and lots of people can be terrible people. The lengths they went, just spoke volumes.
The second instance of humanity came during some Brazilian jiu jitsu training. I got caught in a heel hook which I didn't feel was locked in and well, my MCL tore. I made a noise akin to an Ewok getting beaten. So a dude in class came over and checked on me. New guy. White belt. Turns out, he's an orthopedic surgeon. Assesses me and gives me marching orders of rest, ice, hinged brace, etc. Two days later, he texts me to check up on me and I tell him swelling is going down, whatnot. He asks if I can come to his office to which I said sure. I asked if he took my insurance and he said, "yes, but don't worry about that". Got me in the following day and confirmed a stage 1 MCL tear so the best of tears. We chatted and he gave me further advice to heal for an upcoming competition.
The moral of that little story is he didn't HAVE to reach out. He didn't HAVE to squeeze me in to his busy South Florida office. I don't know if he charged my insurance or not but just him going out of his way, by the way, the day I saw him was his birthday. He just joined a new sport, saw someone in need, and offered help.
If you've read this far, you're happy for those feel good stories. Trust me, I live in South Florida where most people are terrible and moods sour right as you get on the highway on the way to work. These two instances, for me, provided that sliver of good in this world.
