I’ve been lurking for years and lusting for a Gladiator since they were announced. My old truck had a good run, but it was time to let her go. I bought a ‘23 Sport S with Max Tow this weekend, so I officially joined the forum.
Yesterday I did my first mod. I bought a set of OEM rock rails on FB marketplace for $60 and installed them:
Future plans? I don’t know. A person could go broke modding these things!
We’ve driven it all over the Alabama gulf coast this weekend and had a great Father’s Day outing down by the beach. I know I want a tonneau cover soon, but I’m still debating between a hard and soft. I had a trifold hard on my last truck and overall I loved it, but could be a pain when I needed the whole bed.
She’ll be a beach cruising jeep, so I’m looking and thinking about top options like the various sunshades, maybe spending the coin on a sunrider. I think we’ll drive it a bit topless before I make a decision on how to go.
And the black is a blank canvas. She might end up with a little color. But I’m going to drive her for a while as is and think about it some.
While I love the look with a leveling kit and bigger tires, This is my daily driver now, and I’ll be towing my boat quite a bit. I’m hesitant to go messing with the ride anytime soon. Here’s my boat. My 06 Ridgeline towed it just fine and I’m sure the Glad will have no issues. We’re lucky that we live within a 30 minute drive of several great boat ramps, so it’s rare we travel far.
And a few random final thoughts:
1. If you’re in the Reddit group you‘ve already seen the story, but I baptized her on Father’s Day. Yup, here I was, a new owner for less than 24 hours and we ran through a rain shower with the freedom panels off. All is well, it was just a little water and dried out quickly but I thought it was funny.
2. After driving the JT my wife has caught the bug and thinks she wants a wrangler. Lord help me.
3. As I mentioned first, I’ve been lurking and searching threads for a long time. This site is an amazing resource with a wealth of information. Thank you to all of you that have contributed so much over the years. You’ve already helped me more than you know.
