For those who've installed one of these, how did you work around/with the bead of sealant that is on the lip of the hood? It looks like I'd have to

1. File down some of it to be flatter so the mount will slide over it

2. Bend out the tabs (not preferred as it may put the set screws closer the hood and interfere with closing it)

3. I wouldn't be using anything larger than the ghost or smaller whip antenna but any issues with it bending the edge of the hood?

Thanks for any information or pics of the underside if available.

I'm not sure what antenna you are using, but regardless I'm using the smaller comet RS-720 for my Diamond 41" super gainer and have had no problems with the lip mount.
I did use a small file to scrap away the paint on the lip to get a good ground contact.
There is a bead of sealant on the very end of the corner, but I went as close to the bead as possible. So it may depend on where you are locating your lip mount and how wide the mount is.

Hope this helps,

That sealant caught me by surprise too. However, I was able to slide the Diamond K400S NMO mount onto the hood (without the plate) and just tighten the hex screws (which penetrated the sealant). It worked fine and the SWR was very satisfactory. I have one on my Ford truck too and they are great. However, I later decided to remove the Diamond mount from the hood. I used another style mount connected to the diver's side, but removed and used the same Diamond Cable and NMO connection from the Diamond mount as they always provide the best SWR results. Great results with Diamond products. I've tried other NMO Coax cables and none have matched the performance achived by Diamond. The 316 COAX is great for tight places.

That style mount is designed to be used with radialess ground independent type antennas. They don't need a ground.
Many boat owners use this setup also
Check out Diamond antennas web site for more info.

Thanks for the info. Filed the sealant flat where tabs go and went on fine.
