Just wanted to share an idea for hard top storage. I have a quadratic cart holding the hard top straight up it doesn’t take up too much room. Total footprint with the “crate” around the hard top is “ 6’ x 3’ and just over 4 1/2’ tall.

I used mostly scrap and stuff I had laying around so I’m all in for around $25. I bought some 2x3’s to put across the top so I could store the freedom panels up there and a 12ft 2x4 to make up for the width.

It’s not perfect but it protects the top against my son banging into it with his bike and other stuff. I even broken apart a hollow core door I replaced to use that for the sides of the crate.

Tomorrow I’ll get a couple dollar store pool noodles just to pad a couple sections and I feel pretty good about the coverage until I put it back on in the winter. Even then I’ll still be able to use the area for other storage.

I have some casters I could throw under there but I like the stability and am not sure I’m gonna put them there.

Hopefully it helps other people out.

At least you are thinking ahead!!! Kids + Bikes = complete destruction whether it be items in the garage or the driveway(usually the driveway cuz they are too lazy to put their bikes in the garage). Could I ever count how many waist high 8-12 inch scratches that randomly pop up on door panels and fenders. When you had 4 kids it’s always ? ? to get the answers.

If I’m gonna scratch it up it’s gonna be on my own accord.?

if I were your kid, I would see that thing as a hide out, and look for a place to sit in there. I would become a prepper, armed with the latest snacks and the fastest nerf guns. From the safety of thine castle, with much pillage, I would then taunt any nearby trespasser.
