Noted. Line-X?

Now that's a great tip.

I know that autos are better in literally every way. But, I refuse to buy an automatic anything. I honestly just can't stand not doing it myself.

Need? Yeah you're right.
I went with the Auto. Its just too hard to text people on my phone while also shifting.

no but seriously, i used to only have manuals. if you are planning on using it as a daily driver, think long and hard about it. This isnt a miata. Its not sporty. Manuals are great for rock crawling if you are really good with one (i am not, i am likely better off with the auto offroad) I thought i might regret the auto but its so nice and smooth. I still only have manuals in my sporty cars, but in this jeep the auto really feels right.

but if you insist, more power to you.

Almost 3 pages, and nobody has asked how he managed to get a decked out Rubicon to $49,610?

Last time I built a Rubicon, with only a handful of options, it came to almost $54,000.
$2K right off the bat for an automatic and another $2K if you're getting the 8.4" screen with audio. Easy to pile up more options and more money on these thigns.

Seriously, it is bad form in the community to call it a "car". If you are new to Jeeps and the Wrangler and by proxy the JT, habitually and regularly calling it a "car" will get you push back and ridicule.
Just know that there's no ill-will. It's just how I see it.
Call it whatever you want to call it. Some Jeepers need to chill out.

I've always enjoyed playing with GTI's. The Mk4 had a certain likeable character to it, the Mk6 was OK, but the Mk7 is exceptional for a FWD compact hatch.

Lightness is key to a fun car, IMO. With the 2016 models weighing in at just 2330 LBS, they're a riot out in the mountains.
Something about that turbo in my 05 MK4. I could play i
Don't worry your not alone. I've spent countless hours on the configurator and I've been obsessed ever since I heard about it. I stayed up the night of the price release and my wife wasn't happy about that nor is she when every other sentence out of my mouth is about a gladiator. She says quite often I should go marry one. I've got to wait till next year but that's not too bad and hey maybe there will be better stuff on the 2021, who knows
+1 on this. I've now gotten to the point where my wife can't wait for me to get my truck, so she can make me sleep in it .

But seriously, she has not been a happy camper while I was waiting to order, and she hates that I ordered orange, so I've been bringing home flowers (and wine) more often than not.

If the Mrs. and I get one, it will replace our soul-less Venza as our third car that we will drive roughly equally. We've had a good time so far kicking around models, options, colors etc. Have had one test drive together (Sport S). Being on the same page makes shopping it even more fun! She's even OK with a Rubicon with leather (seat covers for the summer months). Good woman; she married badly!

I just can't do it. I don't even like the programming in the JT, and it's largely considered to be very good by most that have driven it. Even my boring as HELL Isuzu Rodeo has a manual tranny. I just can't stand driving autos.

The 1.8T was absolutely a unique engine. The Mk4 GTI and GLI are just a hoot, even though they can have some undesirable tendencies.

It's stories like these that make me happy that I'm single. No wife, no kids, no worries.

Remember how I said I was helping out my friend buy a truck? Well he wound up sleeping in that brand-new Power Wagon of his once he brought it home.

The bigger screen isn't worth it IMO. All I want is Android Auto, and the small screen manages that just fine in the Sport S I played with.

I was trying very hard to keep the price under $50k. Having a few more of the goodies would be nice, but they aren't exactly mandatory.

No doubt. Just saying it's pretty easy to go from 49 to 54 even if you think you're getting a cheap Rubicon. I went all out on mine. I didn't want to regret not having anything. I've made that mistake before and I promised myself I wouldn't do it again.

Soooooo - new member, first post. This is probably the worst thing to do, BUT, hear me out.

I am obsessed with this car. Infatuated, actually. While my friend was buying a leftover Power Wagon, I was bored and decided to drive a JT Sport S. I've driven Jeeps before: YJ's, TJ's, JK's, ect. but this thing was on a whole new level. It's actually livable when it comes to driving it daily. I was shocked, to say the least. Yeah, the steering still sucked and the suspension, while well-behaved, still feels disconnected. But it's a Jeep. It's also a truck. Good steering, dynamics, and chassis communication shouldn't be expected.

Usually when I drive a car there's five things I usually find almost immediately that I hate, and I can usually tell right off the bat. Sorry, but I'm just picky (Don't judge me on the Rodeo, though. I wanted something dirt cheap and practical. Rest assured, I fucking hate it.). With the Jeep, I couldn't find anything I didn't like. The dash is well laid-out, decent enough quality, and loaded with connectivity and usefulness. The interior was just simple and well thought-out, nothing more, nothing less. The on-road manners are stellar for solid axles. The wind noise is minimal for the soft-top. Power is OK, definitely accomplishes its mission. Auto trans tuning was meh, but I'm a die-hard manual driver. The list goes on.

Getting to the point: I have not loved a car this much since I bought the Miata. I LOVE my Miata. But the Gladiator was so damn good, that I almost considered trading in the Miata. Almost. Thought about it for a day and dismissed that option. I know that if I get rid of the Miata, I'm just going to miss it more than life itself. I almost miss my old Volvo that much (Again, don't judge. An AWD, T5, manual wagon? Yes please.). So I'm left with the option of waiting. In less than two years the Miata will be paid off. After that, I plan on ordering and buying the Gladdy. I've played with the configurator so much it isn't funny.

Rubicon
-Firecracker Red (all things must be red)
-Black hardtop (never owning a soft top again)
-Sprayed bedliner (obvious)
-Proximity key (once you have it, it's hard to go back)
-All-weather mats (cleaning is a breeze)
-Trailer tow package (got a motorcycle to tow around)
-LED package (again, once you have it.... plus safety)
-Cold Weather group (the only thing that I actually want, instead of considering it a need)
-Aux switches (just to make wiring stuff up easy as pie)
-MANUAL TRANNY

Grand total with destination charge? $49,610

I have these mouse strokes memorized. I am obsessed with this thing. That's the problem. I'm obsessed. I have a wish list longer than I care to admit on Quadratec. I'm probably going to buy a Tazer JL before I buy the car. I've watched just about every video worth watching on YouTube. How the hell am I supposed to wait? What the hell am I supposed to do in the meantime?

HELP. ME.
Help you... I envy you! You’re only just beginning whatever “wait” you decide to wait. At the end of which, you’ll probably be able to find your dream, Firecracker Red, Gladiator, already built, and waiting for you to drive it off a lot... 60 minutes later.
Me... I’m stuck in Gladiator purgatory, waiting for a Granite Crystal Metallic Rubicon Launch Edition, I, already, put thousands down on, (over four months ago 4/4/19 “4x4 Day”)... which is stuck in “C” status, with no word on any hope of progress, and no serious explanation for the, interminable, delay. Many of my compatriots have already bailed, and settled for a non-LE... some have a found other LE’s on lots, albeit not their GCM color of choice! But I’m committed to my Launch Edition, IN MY COLOR OF CHOICE... Granite Crystal Metallic.
So... I wait... and will wait... here in GCMJTRLE Purgatory limbo. ;{

Oh, no. I can't believe that Punk'n has caused a rift in your family life. Sorry. Is she a good wife in most others ways except for her taste Jeep colors?

Happily, my wife loves orange, she owns an "Electric Spice" (orange) Ford Escape and when I almost wavered before Punk'n was available when I said maybe Red is a nice color, she bucked me up and insisted on orange.

Just six to 16 weeks to wait. Sigh.

Oh, I've been fighting the good fight for some time now. Tried to get her to buy the Orange Tiguan when the new design came out last year, and she went with white, because she's boring, or as she likes to call it, "Safe".

Other than that, yes, she's very supportive of the rest of my life's endeavors (like turning my basement into a 12 foot wraparound bar and home theater instead of her workout space)

She'll get over it when we're able to drive to our comfortable spot on the beach instead of lugging all our crap for a half mile. She was upset I didn't go Gator though. oh well.

Well, that's pretty great really. I always wanted a bar, but only because I like to drink a lot.

And Gator is my second choice.

I remember back when I was still playing with the configurator, dreaming about my Gladiator... Now it's the real deal. Few words of advice...
-Drop the factory bed liner and go aftermarket. Better and cheaper.
-Don't order all weather mats. You don't get the normal carpet mats, and pay full price for the all-weather. Just order them after the fact.
-I can tell from the Miata reference, you're all about the manual Jalops, but research the differences between auto and manual. Auto gives you better fuel economy and better towing.
-Don't trade in the Miata. You'll need it and the Gladiator.
The all-weather mats are on sale now on Amazon. $106. https://amzn.to/2YTgooj
