Ok forum followers. I'm not asking how big a tire my gladiator can handle. I'm not asking what lift it takes for this tire or that tire.Nothing wrong with lifts, big tires ,but not what I want on or for my ride. Just need technical assistance. I tow, haul, and use my Gladys as a truck. I like her at ground level , not lifted. Trying to decide which will have the least impact on tow, hauling ability. 265/75/17 or 255/75/17 .Not going larger than 32's now. Just want a more aggressive tire than stock 245/75/17 duellers .which effects my ability more .wider and same height. Or taller and same width. Thanks for your help.

I tow often and use my truck for truck stuff.

I run 255/75/17s. I absolutely loved a set of bronco take off Dueler ATs I had but the tread wore down faster than I wanted.

Currently I have 255/75/17 Firestone destination AT2s. These tires have been fantastic! Low rolling resistance, just as quiet as the OEM duelers, the JT shifts at the same points as the duelers, I get the same MPG as the duelers, and they look great IMO. Theyre 113T so they carry just a bit more weight than the standard 112 duelers, which doesnt really matter but it makes me feel better. They handle my 6,000lbs travel trailer great so far. My last trip was about 90 miles one way, not far but it was a good test and the tires did exactly as good as the duelers did. They went up about 3-4d during the trip with the extra load.

I had my bags inflated and I have a 2in lift. So don’t mind the space between the tire and fender. It’s larger than it will be on stock.

The tire diameter should be the major factor for towing impact. Smaller diameter means more force on the road to move the truck & load forward for any given torque value. The 255/65/17 tires is the smaller diameter tire. The diameter difference is about 0.5 inches which translates into about 1.8% more force at the tire contact patch for the smaller diameter tire. This difference is pretty small. The smaller tire width affects rolling resistance & handling but probably doesn't change the towing/hauling characteristics.

Thanks gren71 , so you feel the slight height difference between 245/75/17 & 255/75/17 effects truck less than width difference between 245/75/17 & 265/7/17 . Also my stock duellers have performed great thus far 40,000 and Riding. Getting close though and trying to make wise choice. Something I'm not use to.

Anything taller will affect towing ability. If you want a meatier looking tire I would suggest 265x70r17. Same diameter but wider. Very popular size with tons of options.

yes.

i like the increase in height, load capacity, and slight increase in width.

specifically the firestones because they are as light as the duelers but i feel they perform better so far.

wider tires will widen your foot print and hypothetically make you more stable. But at the cost of mpg.

anecdotally i felt like wider tires slowed the truck down..it was like accelerating through a head wind. The thinner taller tires accelerate just line the duelers

giga tire has a great return policy where you can send them back even after use for a full refund. If you’re looking on the fence id give them a look.

glad your duelers lasted. If mine had lasted I would have %100g gotten another set.
