White matte will look pretty good! I do 4-5 coats of color, thin let it sit about 20 mins and paint again. then 3-4 coats of clear(also thin coats).Ordered a set in black today. Will take OP's advice and redo the tape and attempt to sand/paint in matte as well. Figuring that will add nice touch of contrast to white paint and protect the hinges for awhile if not forever.
painting these is really the best method, the gloss coat they put on the plastic makes them look cheaper than they are.
As of now, i've been through the car wash 6 or so times and did some highway driving. They're still there. I would heat up the tape with a hair dryer or heat gun before putting them on. and when you do put them on press firmly for 10-20 seconds to get the 3m tape to grab. avoid the car wash for a day or two and you should be good to go.
