Interested in what everyone is using product-wise to remove their tops or just in their garage in general to pick things up or put them down.

Specifically I saw a foldable 1 ton shop crane at harbor freight for 190 bucks and wondering how it would work for holding the hardtop. Any experiences?

I’ve been toying with the idea of incorporating some sort of crane/jib into a bed rack, not sure just how I’ll do it though. For $190 bucks(don’t forget the 20% coupon!!)it’s worth having it though.

Here’s some pics of a HF crane that I’ve modified onto a solid shank pintle hitch mount (those are 1/2” gussets welded to the shank) to go on my work bench, jig tables, 18’ haul trailer and soon to be on my JT, and anything else you want to weld a vertices receiver coupler to… My plan for the JT is building a bumper (or modifying the stock one) with a vertical receiver coupler flush in the bumper attached to the frame at the passenger corner. The longest reach on the crane is 53” @ 500 lbs, I’m looking into where that flush with the bed floor receiver will have to go to handle top removal and installation safely. The receiver on the bumper will handle heavy crap in and out of the bed, also planing two of those quick drop down jacks (out riggers) on each side of the bumper to handle stability. (Frenched into the ends on the bumper). Note: the 5/8” bolts on the corners of the work bench(out riggers), super important with any crane. Remember all the weight must be carried by the frame of the truck, I’m looking at even reinforcing the setup by tying to the other frame rail as well. Also you don’t want the bed floor carrying ANY point loaded weight, even with sandwiched plates top and bottom of bed. I’ve already built a spreader bar to handle the balance of the top that I built for my 09 JK Rubi. I’ll post pics on my progress. I hope this is helpful.

The back part of the hardtop only weighs 60 pounds. You don't need a 2 ton hoist to lift it.
