You can see in my sig my JT's setup and it drove pretty darn nice. I was having an issue when stopped in a parking lot, I had to really muscle the steering wheel to maneuver. When towing my travel trailer and parking it, this was becoming a big irritation. Also, when traveling down a rutted or bad country road at speed, it was two hands on the wheel to keep the Jeep tracking straight, which I expected anyway. The Jeep drove pretty good with 35's but when stepping up to 37's, there was a difference for sure.
After conversations with my buddy that owns a Jeep shop, he recommended the Apex 2.5 Ton aluminum steering kit (no flip), the Apex cooler and power steering booster and to match my other shocks, a Fox 2.0 stabilizer. It is not the cheapest answer considering about $1,800 in parts, so I left it alone for months. In the back of my mind, running 37s with the stock tie rods and steering components was bothering me. I have a 9 day wheeling trip coming up in the desert in a couple months, so I finally decided to pull the trigger. I did not install the kit this time, and as I understand it, the installation is a bit complex, plus tuning the pump pressure and alignment, so I handed the shop my keys and went to the bar, haha. There are others here that would surely take this on in their driveway, but did I mention my buddy owns a Jeep shop?
Wow. This is what I kept saying when I picked the Jeep up and drove it home. Wow, whoa, and 'this is awesome' were among other phrases I uttered.
In the parking lot, I can easily turn the wheels from lock to lock, while sitting still, with three fingers on the wheel. At 75 mph on the highway, the Jeep stays planted and solid, even in the wind and bad roads. It does not hunt or wander at all and overall has a solid and planted feeling. I am stoked that my 5" lifted JT with 37's drives better now than it did stock. The kit doesn't look too shabby either.
