Going to Moab soon. Im planning on hitting a few trails. I know the wife has plans to go to arches and chicken corners, I want to hit up a couple other trails while were there. Thinking about fins and things, hells revenge or poison spider. We dont have a specific schedule yet, but would love to go with someone as this is my first time to Moab. Not trying to get too crazy as I have to drive back home across the country.

Yes I know its probably the worst time to go to Moab.....but those are the cards I was dealt.

Go to the grocery store parking lot first thing in the morning. That was what I was told and we met a couple people to wheel with. I guess it is the local meet up place.

City Market (there are two grocery stores) is a place where people have historically met up to wheel in the mornings. I've not swung by there for years.

You should be good to go on the trails you mention above. Just go out early in the morning or later in the afternoon. It's pretty hot from about 12:00-4:00 or so. I've been running trails in Moab and around UT the past 25ish years. For Poison Spider, Hells Revenge, and similar trails with a JT you'll want some 37" tires and appropriate lift. Any harder trails than that, you'll want some armor. You can probably do those trails on 35" tires but I will likely move up to 39" BFG KM3 before my next trip to Moab.

I haven't been to Arches for quite some time. I think they have a lottery system for access now? Check into that before you go. Chicken Corners and Dead Horse Point are worth your time. Chicken Corners is a very easy 4wd road (stock JT would be more than fine) and Dead Horse Point is accessible via highway 313. Hit dead horse at sunrise or sunset. Worth it

You don't need to do "hard" trails to enjoy yourself. Drive up (or down) the Colorado River gorge on the highway. Check out some Canyonlands Nat Park points of interest. Onion Creek is kind of a fun drive (I haven't done that for many years either) and has super cool scenery.

I have a 2 inch plate lift and "37s", they measure closer to 36. Patagonias. I wasnt trying to go to hard as I have to drive back to Michigan after the trip. I do have some arb diff covers now but no skid plates other than factory.

My wife is on the arches lottery tickets or whatever access is needed. Dead horse sounded like something my wife has something on the list as well. Ill make sure to tell her we need to go there at sunset.

I think we have a couple days in the trip as "flex" days. In there as well. I think she mentioned onion creek, and that might be a flex day trail.

I'd suggest "warming up" to Hells Revenge and Poison Spider. You'll be a better driver and your wife will be a better passenger with a Chicken Corners -Secret Spire - 3D- Seven Mile Rim- Dome Plateau workup to the Fins and Things, Hells Revenge, Poison Spider trails.

I'd love to join you but that is one of the only weeks I'll be working in the office over the next 5-6 weeks

iirc, most Nat'l parks are always open, they're just staffed during the day at the gate (7am-4pm for Arches).

there's at least one dirt road to get into Arches - Willow Flats Rd. We drove on part of it a few years ago in a stock Expedition. It's pretty tame from what I could tell.

We ended up doing chicken corners first, not a bad trail but more intense than videos I've seen on the trail showed it. Did the willow tail too, mostly just bumpy.

I was less prepared for hells revenge than I thought. Freaked out my wife a ton. Since I'm not the most experienced and the park was pretty empty, I decided since I have to drive 1600 miles home that I wasn't going to do the more known obstacles. It just means I have to return to Moab at some point.

Now my goal this fall is to make it to Drummond and silver lake this year.... If I can fit it in around work.
