Howdy jeep forum! Long time creeper first time poster; i have a (probably dumb) question:

The jt and jl have the same manual transmission right? So they should shift the same? Has anyone out there tested a mt jt? Yes I've watched the review by red line, but i dont think they mentioned the comparison between jt and the jl.

I driven standard my whole life and will continue till they force us to have self-driving vehicles for us for "safety reasons".

Im curious because i definitely want to test a mt out on a jt but i live in a rural part of bc and the closest dealers (2 hour away) only have auto jt and they say that they dont plan on ordering mt for the floor. So a jl mt will be the closest thing before i put my order in. But that wont be till September, hopefully, because if im going spend around 60k for a vehicle in going to get exactly what i want. Gator!

Thanks!

I test drove a JL Sport with manual transmission, as that's the only available unit my dealer had on the lot with a stick. I can't say (yet) how close the JL feels to the JT, but if you're committed to manual transmission then you should just order on faith or test drive a JL to get a close feeling. The rate at which MT JT's are coming off the line (which is to say, they aren't) will make it highly unlikely that you'll find an unsold unit with MT at any time in the near future.

As for my impressions, I ultimately ordered the MT for my JT Rubicon. The JL I drove reminded me very much of my manual trans YJ in terms of "Jeepiness" with the shifting, but had the advantage of being equipped with a modern transmission. The 8 speed is very good, but after having the ZF8 in several vehicles I know that it just does not give the same feeling of connection to the vehicle as a manual.

I do not believe any MT JT have been built (other than for testing/reviews). My last MT was a 2000 TJ. I test drove a MT 2019 JL just to see what it was like and I am in awe ... like cutting butter with a hot knife. I also test drove a MT Tacoma for comparison, definitely more truck and like my TJ.
