Repurposed my hardtop hoist

so... What do you do when you get away from work and it’s raining! Go topless! Of course!

I used to own a ‘17 jku with hard top and I electrified winched a basic model harken hoister. It worked great for my previous vehicle... flash forward to today... made some minor modifications to the frame (Drilled a new hole/painted the hole, so I could shorten for the smaller top) cut some of the styrofoam stuff down, moved my pulley on the ceiling and rebalanced with the freedom tops on... walla!

Looking into your suggestion, your absolutely right... I need to get the clip to the bottom of the top. A friend came over and brainstormed over dinner... went and got some parts... and then I found out I gotta go to work. Ugh. I’ll post up when I get the retro fit done.

So after rethinking where to put my hook on the back. I went to Home Depot and bought some nuts, couplers and a 2 foot threaded stock. After taking a couple of measurements, I cut down the stock and threaded it all together. Above and below the coupler I added some nuts and tightened the coupler down so it didn’t come unscrewed. Now I’m happy with how it turned out and not worried about glass shattering all over my garage.

it was part of my hoist. I only extended it.
