Drove a 88 YJ in S. FL without the hard top or doors for about 10 years. I did have a bikini top but the rain coming "down" isn't your problem. When you start driving over 30 mph all moisture blows back in from the rear. Turning on the defroster was your only hope of moving the water off of the inside of the window. In hindsight I should have purchased something to separate the front from the back but where's the excitement in that?
Day I bought the Jeep I purchased a seat cover on the way home and then removed the back seat and carpeting. When I traded it in the interior looked new because the seats and carpet were unblemished.

Yup….I had a 92 & 94 YJ…. It was a trail rig, so no carpet or anything. We Herculined the floor, waterproof seat covers, and had a bikini top.
I remember we were driving back from the trails one day and got stuck in ‘stopped’ traffic on the highway during a pretty severe thunderstorm. Luckily, it was a hot summer day and it was refreshing. We were laughing the whole time!! People in the cars around us were giving us THUMBS UP…. And smiling!
I’ll never forget that memory!!

I have the MOPAR trail cover. The real interesting thing, and probably holds very true for rain gear top as well, is it fits my TJ as well. (although it can be a bit difficult to secure the rear straps)

A cab cover is your best bet but you can’t drive. I have hit car wash bays and many a Sonic burger joint too.

For me personally….. I’m looking for something I can drive with it.
Otherwise, I’ll stop at a car wash or gas station and put my freedom panels back on and get to driving again.

I too have very fond memories of that time. Right before my wedding I was stopped at a an intersection with my brother during a severe storm and watched a palm tree, about 25 meters away, get hit by lightning. Ah, good times!

It is irritating on the Gladiator. Need a clear plastic shield between the front seat headrests, like convertibles have.

I believe it. This is my second summer with the JT in S. TX and I have never taken the tops off. Not for a lack of wanting but mostly because I don't have the garage space. I have a son who has taken most of the area with his weight lifting equipment and the other half is filled with furniture my daughter bought for the new apartment she never moved into 6 months ago.

then you’re going to want something like a sunrider.

Another option is the rugged ridge soft top, and soft doors. I have the RR top, and it works well, has a sunrider type feature, and can be opened up to a safari style top. The soft doors would be easy to remove/install in a jiffy…

I hear ya…. I don’t have room to store the hard top or hard doors anywhere. We take the hard top off often via a hoist and leave it hanging (above the jeep) and put it back on.

The Sunrider is a nice option, however…. #1) I don’t want to install and un-install each time I want to remove the hard top. #2) I don’t see the benefit in spending the $$, when I’m perfectly OK with removing the freedom panels and putting them back on when needed.
