Hey, what are y'all using to help with pop up storms during the summer?

I love driving with the top and doors off but I live close to the coast in SC and from June through August its almost a guarantee that you get an afternoon thunderstorm.

I have this black wanna be bikini top like thing but it has like 4000 straps. I was wondering what others are doing. Share your pics too if you got em.

thanks

I’m here for the suggestions…. Most folks are going to suggest the Sunrider.

For now… I keep the freedom panels in the bed of the truck and will pull over and put them on for a pop up shower (including if/when the hard top is off)

I’ve been hunting for something myself and haven’t had any luck. Nothing is easy (or quick) to install (on/off). If you want water proof/resistance…usually involves a front metal channel and maybe 500 straps. 😁There’s a lot of sunshades out there….but they’re certainly not for a pop up shower. I’ve been tempted to buy one and have an additional layer of material added to it.

The problem I’m having… 2024 with side airbags. I don’t think there’s anyone who makes anything for it. Straps or bungee chords interfere with the airbags.

Both my wife and I carry the Jeep branded rain covers in our Jeeps as we run doorless & topless most all summer (her 1st year) but I've run like this since 2013 - used to use a old tent rain-fly by on my Gladiator bought the Mopar cover and no regrets. Spend the money on a decent quality one, not the cheapy off of Amazon both the Mopar and Rain Gear are great.

It's a shame that you have to create the thread and then actually Publish it to see all the similar threads.

As far as answering the question goes....and since it's not clear if you are referring to "Rain Gear" in the general sense or specifically the company called Rain Gear.....I have found that you just can't beat these:

Better material than the Jeep-branded ones we have had, and fit well over even the hardtop (with mirror cutouts as well) if you just have the freedom panels off.

I wish the top was not mesh (JTops USA), but leaving it on year round under the hardtop was more important. The mesh door covers (on/off super quick/easy) are MOPAR on MOPAR tube doors. They help out a lot. Especially on a sub 60 degree morning drive to work. I too carry the Freedom Panels with me.

Drove a 88 YJ in S. FL without the hard top or doors for about 10 years. I did have a bikini top but the rain coming "down" isn't your problem. When you start driving over 30 mph all moisture blows back in from the rear. Turning on the defroster was your only hope of moving the water off of the inside of the window. In hindsight I should have purchased something to separate the front from the back but where's the excitement in that?
Day I bought the Jeep I purchased a seat cover on the way home and then removed the back seat and carpeting. When I traded it in the interior looked new because the seats and carpet were unblemished.

It still amazes me how it irritates some folks so much on this forum when someone asks a question that has been discussed before. There is one member on here who I think must sit in front of his computer 24/7 just waiting to point out that the topic has already been discussed . Than another member thinks it is a shame someone created a thread and published it. So what.

It's not annoying. I mean, I did try to answer the question. But being able to find the information you are looking for quicker and more efficiently seems like a win for everyone involved to me. It's not a shame that folks post similar threads, its a shame that the forums don't notify the poster they exist before they publish. If you want to blindly skim through a dozen threads rehashing the same question, nobody is stopping you.

I remember those day with both the CJ's and the TJ's.

It is irritating on the Gladiator. Need a clear plastic shield between the front seat headrests, like convertibles have.

Rain gear is the best one. Mine was on in 40mph thunderstorm and it was fine. My coworker had a thin amazon one and had to run out and adjust it. The only negative to the rain gear is its more bulky than some of the others.

Back before cloth seats and electronics it was no big deal to get rained on. A cab cover is your best bet but you can’t drive. I have hit car wash bays and many a Sonic burger joint too. Any port in a storm.

My rain gear looks like this...
Jeep Gladiator Rain Gear 1000008621

I leave the top on unless certain there will be no rain and no direct sun. If you gotta go top off wear long sleeves.

Be well. Jeep with the top on. Skin cancer is real.

I can definitely understand your concerns as I'm in Savannah and the infamous afternoon thunderstorms can put you in a bad spot really quick. I have the Rain Gear cover and I'm good with it. It takes some practice to get good and fast but it's never let me down. I have a tonneau cover on my JT so I don't bother puttting it back in it's bag. I just throw it in the bed and close the cover.
