Roll-n-lock retractable bed cover – love hate relationship

I have the M-series retractable cover. I love the cover, but….. Does anyone else have to take the back area cover lid off regularly to clean out the drains? I feel they clog all the time, then the “well” fills with water and either backups up into the bed or I need to open the cover, remove leaf litter or seedling or dirt that has clogged the drain hole. Has anyone done a DIY with a screen or tube to keep stuff from clogging the holes so it drain regularly?.

I don't have to clean mine out too often. Twice a year maybe? PNW pine needles are a pain but the brush built into the cover does a pretty good job.
All my neighbors cutting down their trees has helped.
