I love this smartcap, but I want to go a different route. I purchased it in February 2022. I’m asking $3,995 and it’s available as soon as tomorrow afternoon if you pick it up in San Antonio. Message me if you’re interested. I can’t deliver it, so you’ll need to arrange for pickup if you can’t come and get it. I will help move the Smartcap, but you’ll need to bring muscle too.
Note: the roof rack and awning shown in the picture do not convey with the Smartcap. You’re only buying the Smartcap, clamps to secure the Smartcap to your bed, and keys.
I don’t know if it matters based on what you plan to do with your truck, but the RSI smartcap is really hard to beat with its capabilities. It can hold 330 lbs dynamic, 770 lbs static. It has side doors that open with windows inside those doors that can allow venting while the side doors are closed. The locks are - in my opinion - better than those of the competitors fiberglass caps - two per door.
Now, I really like the ARE caps, but I don’t think they can compete with the Smartcap. The strongest cap (CX HD) for the gladiator can only hold 550 lbs. maybe that’s static load, but they don’t say. I’m thinking that’s going to be the dynamic load limit.
Also, once you buy the ARE, you’re stuck with what you have. Forget changing it up if you want to remove the tool boxes or add upper storage. And if you damage your fiberglass ARE, you may have to replace the entire cap.
With the Smartcap, if you damage it, you only need to replace the damaged portion of the cap. And if you want to add the tool boxes, there are several options for sizes. Also, they bolt into threaded holes already in the cap - it’s already prepped for adding or removing parts as your needs change.
It’s a fantastic cap, and I think it has much more capability than standard fiberglass caps.
