I’ve been looking for a set of Rubicon take offs. I don’t need the mud terrain versions but a good deal came around. How are these on the road? I’m mostly a daily driver with occasional beach/dirt road trail. Any advice.
The Falken MTs are awesome tires. They are great in standing water, not too loud on the road for MTs. Actually, I've had ATs that were louder. These also handle the highway very well. They are also phenomenal off road. Not once have I even had the slightest hint of being stuck with them. Traction in the dirt and mud is amazing. I don't do any crawling, so I can't comment there, but I loved them on the rocky trails around here.
If I have to knock them at all, it's just that when it first starts raining, and the street first starts getting slick, I've spun the tires a little from a stop. That has a bit to do with my manual transmission too though. Not once have I hydroplaned in motion with these. They brake very well, and corner well too, but there is going to be some roll (of course, with this meaty tread).
I've yet to winter them, since I got my gladiator in April, and being MTs, that may be their weak point though. I'm going to 35s soon. And they are a top contender. I think I'm getting the same tires only bigger, if I don't go for the Toyo 35x11.5s. But that would only be to keep my factory wheels. If I go aftermarket wheels, I'm getting another set of Falken Wildpeak MTs in 35x12.5. I'm at 9300 miles, and I'd say I could get about 30,000 out of these tires, so for an MT, they wear pretty well.
I agree with NachoRuby, really good overall tires. Surprisingly quiet on road, good off road, and I had mine in some snow last winter, did great. I have not, nor will I, rock crawl with them, but they are pretty impressive otherwise.
And they look aggressive as well!
I agree with those who have typed before. Good tires on the road, in the dirt and mud. They don’t suck in the snow. They were louder than the Wildpeak ATs for me but after 3 days driving in around I stopped hearing it. They do GREAT crawling rocks (I’m an amateur tho).
