So... I was trying to load an extra heavy bag of compost into the bed of my JT and used my winch along with a snatch block not realizing I was crushing a part of the edge of my tailgate... anyone have a ball park what the idiot tax will be? I'm thinking a good PDR guy can probably take it out, but if not and push comes to shove... I'm guesstimating about $1,200.

If you were closer, I’d try to help you out. I did PDR for the BMW plant for 11 years, before I retired. That said, I think a good PDR shop could fix that with a little effort. From the pic, I’d say a couple of hours. I’d at least get an estimate from a shop or two. It would be a lot cheaper than a new tail gate, considering getting it paint matched and all. Different shops charge different rates, but I would say about $500, give or take. You could also try checking larger junkyards.

Thanks. I put a feeler out with a buddy who works for a local ford shop, he’s going to get me the info for the their guy.

I just recently put a 4inch scratch in my passenger side front fender it was $500 to have it repaired. So $1200 to have it repaired is probably not far off

Yeah that’s factoring in a new tailgate shell. This is the first cut and boy is it the deepest.

Yeah I looked, problem is that none of them are actually in good shape, even if non color matched and cost the same or more than a new OEM unit. I’ll just have to get it fixed.

Well my "Idiot tax" on my 4wheeler over $700 just to make drivable again, total is over 2k to fix /replace parts at least. :headbang: My idiot tax on my LJ was left in place as a reminder... dent and scratch in driver's door.
Damned if it isn't the simple stuff or helping out, that's when it happens. first scratch in JT was from cutting plywood from the wood. ?

Lol my trailer was at a buddy’s.

I ordered too much compost for my own yard and another buddy without a truck asked me to take him some when going over to fix a leaking pipe…

Does that count as the helping someone circumstance?

Sounds like it to me. :like:?
I just figured I'd do some trail cleanup while breaking it in. Not even 9 hours running. ? My 08 4wheeler I've never broken anything on it. ? just scratches, wear weather exposure.

So just an update for those who may actually be interested or do a similar dumb move. I’ve had three reputable pdr guys turn this down. The way the impact happened vs the placement will likely lead to paint chipping. Time for a body shop estimate. ?
