I stopped in to look at Gladiators at a local dealer. I didn't bother them since 6 months ago they told me they were selling everything for MSRP.

When I was walking the lot, every new Wrangler and Gladiator had a $2k market adjustment.

I have more respect for a dealer who does this than one who tries to bullshit you that they are actually selling you something with added value.

I won't be buying there, but at least they were being honest. ha.

Folks - things change. If you don't need to buy now, don't.

Or if you have a late model trade, you may make up for it in your trade.

I've been to two different Jeep dealerships (South Texas) and I'm being met with these ridiculous dealer fees that they are both telling me are non negotiable. Is this a thing with Jeep? In all states? Or am I getting screwed...
At one dealer, the extra total "package" was 3k. Included tinted windows, wheel locks, nitrogen in the tires and a few other things. Basically crap I didn't need or want. But he stood firm and said it's a "dealership thing" and is applied to all Jeep's and can't be negotiated. I walked out.
Went to another Jeep dealer, and there's was almost similar, but they charged 2k. Guy also said the same thing. I walked out again. lol
This is just insane to me. Anyone heard of this?
There's a simple solution to car dealers.... If you see they are trying to screw you, ask them how much that vehicle is making them just sitting on the lot... Then tell them to shove it, with all the added extras up their ass.

Had the same stuff at the dealership I bought mine, but told them I had no interest in the stuff in the package and they could take it off if they wanted too, left it on and discounted the price.

Give Charlene at Jim Marsh in Las Vegas a shot. She got me within $500 of a high volume dealer. Her email is [email protected]
Thanks, I’ll give them another shot, but they wouldn’t budge on a Gobi Gladiator that they had on the lot earlier this summer.
I’ll try her directly.

They moved a little on in stock units. Much better price on factory orders.

I'm guessing that the answer is that they are doing fine. That's the problem.

Dealers have an expense called "floor plan cost". That is the expense of the interest charged on cars on their lot. The dealers don't typically pay the manufacturer for their inventory, they use a rotating credit line - floor plan.

A vehicle with a $45,000 cost breaks down like this. 45,000 x .04 (assuming 4% interest) = $1800 per year in interest. $1800/yr = $150 per month in floor plan expense for a car that cost them $45k.

So you see. It really doesn't cost them that much to sit on a car for an extra month. And these days, if they know they won't be getting any more for 45 days, it pays to sit on it to try to maximize their income.

The simple solution is actually to go to another dealer who will give you the price that you want. Move on. Don't take it personally.

Actually, the simple solution is for the consumer to stop taking it in the keister from car dealers. And as to profit, automotive dealerships make their money in the garage and not in the show room.

Yes, but the question we were discussing was HOW not to take it in the keister??

Dealers make plenty in the showroom. So much dealer work now is warranty work. On a warranty repair the flat rate labor amount is lower as is the hourly rate. Dealers make much less on warranty work than they do on "customer pay" work.

Here in SoCal it's common to find a $2k-3k market adjustment or "add-on package." I walked away from several dealerships when I was shopping for my JT. Most of the salesmen were apologetic when I told them I wasn't interested in paying the upcharges, but only one two were willing to budge on the prices. Eventually I found the truck I wanted, with the package I liked, on the floor. Be patient, and be prepared to walk away if you're not finding the truck you want at the price you want.

Terry - wow. How 'bout you go back to Grindr.

I sold cars for 2 years and did F&I for 1 year. So yes. Prior to that at 16 I drove the parts truck, 17 worked the parts counter, 18 was a tech, 20 was a service writer and when I finished college at 22 started selling.

So yes, I know how dealerships work. And on weekends I used the lifts to work on my Dad's RX7 that we raced.

Any more questions?? The only way not to take it in the "keister" is to walk away.
