Like many, I only saw the photos of Moab and thought, "what an incredible place, i'll never make it there. Much less wheel my Jeep there." Well, my bucket list has been checked. After 3 years in the Gladiator (my first Jeep), I decided to do this right and go for the ultimate experience, Moab. While I was pretty content with Texas wheeling at Hidden Falls, I knew the set up would not suffice what I wanted to do in Moab, so after a long 5 months in North Dakota with Overwatch Expeditionary, Chris sent the Gladiator back to me in Houston a new animal with a load of upgraded goodies. Basically, everything I had done over the last 3 years was scrubbed and re-done with more intense wheeling in mind. Yes, there's still more to come (axles, beadlocks, 40's, hydro steering), but for now this would have to do. ARB lockers F&R , dual compressors, Yukon 5:13 gears, 39" BFG KM3 on new (to me) Fuel Rebels, a full Synergy lift kit with steering components, Falcon shocks, CavFab bumpers, Motobuilt sliders (waiting to be installed), Nemesis Crawler fenders, new Warn Zeon winch, new KC Flex Era 4 lights, Midland GMRS, Chromolly shafts, ...and hell, I'm sure i'm missing more. And of course a fresh set of Underground Graphics vinyl. (gotta look good on the trails!)
Being fresh out of the shop and in to mine, i had some concerns about the 20 hour drive, so I invited my friend Paul from Vegas to make the drive and share the experince, ...and photo, video and document the adventure. Upon arriving in Moab on Tuesday night, Chris took us out on Hells Revenge in his Wrangler on 40's. I immediately thought, "What have I got myself into?!" I asked about doing Fins and Things, his response was that our trials wold be nothing but advanced, and not to worry, he'll be spotting the entire time. Lets do it!
Wednesday we hit Poison Spider, Golden Spike and Gold Bar Rim. 12 hours on the trails. Holy shit, I could not believe what we had done.
Part two cmae on Friday when we did Rusty Nail and reversed our track on Gold Bar Rim, Golden Spike and Poison Spider. Another 12 hour day. Another anxiety driven adventure. Amazingly, the Jeep did incredible. Yeah, we got a few new scars, but it's all part of the adventure, ...at least that's what i'm telling myself.
Anyway, here's a few favorites of the Underground Graphics Gladiator's first trek to Moab.Oh, and EJS is friggin' awesome! While we did register as a vendor, we decided last minute to not work, but wheel and enjoy the trip. Meeting new friends and seeing customers we had never met was incredibly cool. Definately something i'll look to do again next year, ...or maybe even GSMJI later this year. :P
