One of my favorite online car shows did a great real-world review of the Mojave. He seemed to like it but he complained about being too expensive and needing more power, just as everyone else does. So is it just me, or should everyone doing high speed trails run their Mojaves in 4Lo since it can go up to 50mph (PLENTY fast for off-road) and will have all that torque that appears to be missing when you leave it in 4Hi (or 2Hi as he does in the video)? I think that running in 4Lo, especially with rears locked as can be done in the Mojave, should keep the "it needs more power" complaints to a minimum...

I've replied to his stuff before on that Gladiator video:

You cannot compare prices from a Raptor to Gladiator. The Raptor is no longer being produced, and any "new" one on the lots are being marked up towards 2x the price in high-market areas. This Gladiator is more comparable to a Ranger (Raptor Ranger in Europe for sure).

Totally agree - the Raptor and the Mojave are not comparable. The discussion should always be TRX vs Raptor and leave it at that. The Mojave is really, as you said, a competitor to the Ranger Raptor, Tacoma TRD Pro, and a few others.

But I still think that anyone who reviews the Mojave in its natural habitat needs to shift into 4Lo, floor it, and then start the assessment of whether or not it is underpowered for what it says it can do!

When it comes to price people should also mention resale. I know the Gladiator hasn't been out long so resale numbers are hard to come by. But I suspect they will be similar to a Wrangler. Which, makes a big difference in the value of the vehicle. I feel the same with the Raptor. People say it is expensive but it retains around 70-80% of its value at 5 years.

So yeah, I think resale should always be considered when talking car prices. You buy a BMW or just about any luxury car and it's resale crashes within a year.

Ainā€˜t that the truth. Just for poops and giggles, I checked KBB for both my 2014 JKR and 2016 Audi A5...the Jeep is worth more now and cost less new!

Raptor not being produced? Where did you get that from? The next Raptor already has been seen on the road in camo wrap. The Raptor is too valuable not to come out with a new one.

It's not technically been confirmed for 2021. Still possible that there is not a 2021 Raptor with the new generation F150 model. Might debut in 2022. There is for sure going to be a new Raptor though.

Ford has skipped a year of the Raptor the past 2 generations with the change over.

It'll come and Ford will probably have to step it up to compete with the TRX's mall cred. Can't show off driving second best.

Yes maybe not 2021 but thereā€™s tons of 2020s to be had. So not produced for a year but will be right on track in 2022 at the latest.

Yep I agree on that resale argument. If I remember correctly I read an article earlier in the year that stated the Wrangler had the best resale value of anything on the market. 8 out of the rest of the top 10 vehicles were trucks. So if 2+2=4, then we'll have great resale on the Gladiators. Also, I wouldn't buy any of these used since new retains value so well.

professional big dumb animal.........
I think I prefer is style to many others. Heā€™s entertaining and I like the way he delivers his sentient, mostly.
He Makes some good points on the trucks best/better qualities but has, I wonā€™t say generally irrelevant commentary(For me that is), but has curious points about its size and compromise /adaptability to achieve it intended Design mission. Seems like heā€™s more of a city/ road GT car enthusiast which makes me think his commentary is outside his best expertise thatā€™s found in higher end personal luxo-autos???? No way you get a trail rig that drives like a Cadillac on freeway.... sure Iā€™d love that really.....; but
If it does then Iā€™m thinking you have a poseur thatā€™s dressed up nicely, maybe drives well In and snow parking lots but
I donā€™t see nearly any other vehicles with the capability or pedigree this has driving as such- outside of only a select couple of vehicles....
respectfully-
But all that shouldnā€™t discount that for the price commanded- this Jeep should do better in some areas

Ford has stated in interviews there will be no 2021 model year Raptor for the 13th gen F150. Most likely not until 2023.

Itā€™s funny, you are right, but they clearly want it to be the Wrangler truck otherwise they wouldnā€™t have made it a carbon copy..

Of course it makes it appealing but in the end itā€™s a Gladiator, nothing wrong with that as itā€™s unique
