Moab trails

My husband and I are doing an unexpected trip to Moab this year. So excited! Curious about trails we can do in our Gladiator. We have a 2" lift with 37's. We did Engineer Pass in Colorado last year no issues. Hoping we can get some good rides in this summer. We're going in mid-August.

I would estimate you are good to go on anything 5 or 6 rated (out of 10) in the Red Rock 4 Wheelers trail book.

Depending on your experience, start with a warm up on a 3-5 rated trail. If you're comfortable/bored with the 5-6, bump up to a 7. Mid-August will still be pretty warm (90*+ usually). Hit the trails early and be back to town by 1-3 pm for lunch. Maybe do a 4-8pm trail afterwards. Don't be afraid to take a 2-3 rated trail. Sometimes there are some pretty cool vistas to see on those.

If you/your husband are knowledgeable on what 4x4-low range is (I've had to help more people than I'd ever expect shift into low range, even in their Rubicon or whatever), you'll catch on pretty quick. Just keep the vehicle moving but don't use a LOT of throttle.

I’ve done a decent number of trails in Moab over several trips. Some of them when our gladiator was bone stock. With 2” and 37’s, almost everything, short of Pritchett canyon are easily accessible. That’s speaking of your Jeep, but you need to judge your experience. Ideally go with someone else, or when the trails are busy. I’ve done poison spider and top of the world with other great drivers with stock Willy’s and Mohaves with no lift and factory 33’s. Both did great on both trails with no damage. I would HIGHLY recommend a hitch skid. It will make you extremely relaxed in situations that might otherwise have been stressful. Have a great time. You’ll be addicted in no time. These trails are much different than engineer. They are to be respected, but not feared. Just take your time and go at your own pace. You’ll do great.

Thank you! We were just looking at the hitch skid last night. Hoping to get one before the trip. I'm excited for the difference in Moab vs Colorado. We don't have much out here in Detroit. But we have some sand dunes in West Michigan that are so fun!
We're hoping it's busy when we go, but have asked a friend to join us on the trip. Otherwise, thinking of finding some groups online in the area to see if anyone wants to do a group ride.

Stay hydrated and you'll get through the heat/weather. A great hydration barometer is if you need to pee. Sometimes you'll get a rare rain storm sighting in late summer. Those are beyond interesting and incredible. Find some high ground and watch nature kick ass.

Haha, hydration is priority one for me sinceI don't do well in the heat sometimes. I sure hope we get a good rain storm! I at least convinced him to rent a cabin instead of tent camping I think!

Half doors and top down aren’t going to be a great idea mid day. Close it up and don’t feel bad about using the AC. You’ll be way less fatigued later in the day.

Tip: You don't have to top off the massive water supply until AFTER you reach the Moab area! I had hauled tons of water cross country for no reason...
