Mojave with NEW A.R.E camper shell

Went and picked this up today. In GREAT shape…just the WRONG color…. Did a 10 hour round non-stop trip.

Got it for $2k.

Got home and immediately started prepping it for RAPTOR lining in black to match the hard top.

Will post more pics tomorrow of the sanding and prepping as well as the Raptor spray going down. Will be done tomorrow by 2-3pm.

Well… could waste time tonight.

Went ahead and did a 220 grit sanding. Got it all prepped and will wipe it down in the morning. I should have id one earlier amd will be back on tomorrow by 5 pm.

Have some new rubber stripping Onam going to put on the bottom and then done.

Nice - I looked at the Line-X version as a potential option. Not sure if I want to go with a complete cover option or do one of the new decked option with rails to retain bed functionality. I also looked al the full aluminum cap. I cant recall the company.

Yea… there are soo many options.

This one has thr built in rails on top. They are taped up. Has the LED light system inside as well and screen vents over the windows. Really nice setup.

I liked how it is even witht he roof of the jeep and can access the shell from the inside of thr jeep…but definately have to be a tiny person to fit

I've been running a nearly identical ARE one my Tacoma since 2016 except with the side win-doors and had it rhino lined from the factory. Looks nearly new still. Also ran a couple different racks and tents so just saying these things are legit. Never had a doubt on the integrity. Great find!

Did you sand by hand or using power tools? How long did sanding take? Are you planning on Raptor rattle cans or using an air gun? If rattle cans, how many? I ask as I am planning to Raptor my ARE fiberglas cap.

I sanded by hand with 220 just to scuff it. Took about 2 hours.

Will wipe it with paint thinner and spray it to get all dust/contaminents off then coat it.

I am using the Raptor kit spray gun and using my tiny compressor to speed it up.

Will start in about 2.5 hours…7:30 ish. Should have second coat on by 9:30. Will give it til about 5 and re-install. Temps here are supposed to be 68. It should dry really fast.

Damn Matt, you were right no wasting time, relax a bit have a couple coffees to help speed you up, or perhaps a couple beers to steady your spray arm, looks good. I have a cap and it made the usefullness so much better, everything dry and secure ....Jack

Us old guys barely sleep anymore. Always up by 5… only way I can drink a cup of coffee in peace until the kids get up

Sun is up in about 45 mins and will grt it done.

Forst 2 bottles used for a decently heavy first coat.

Got about an hour left for the lat 2 bottles. Should be done by 11am.

The kit comes with the 4 bottles. I made it through 3 and it is on THICK! I am saving the last and order another set to do the factory hard top.

The key not having “tiger” stripes is on your last lay of the spray be elevated and mist it. That will elinate any striping.

Was that the standard version or the HD with the aluminum frame inside?
