As the title states curious if anyone has ran 38’s with factory 4.10’s and been content. I currently have 37 bfg’s with 4.10’s and it’s tolerable. Does hunt a little between 7 and 8 on the highway depending on wind, hills etc.

Wondering if I would be able to get away with a 38 and be content for a bit. If it holds 7th I wouldn’t be upset. The up and down between 7 and 8 can be annoying so my thought was a little larger and heavier tire may hold it in 7.

I did for a few weeks while I waited on my gears to come in. It was not fun on the freeway as it never got out of 7th. Even quick trips around town it was always shifting up and down.

I should have mentioned freeway speeds here are 75 and most side streets are 50

Our freeway speed is 70. My thought process here is that 5.13’s put the rpm in in 8th basically at the same spot as 7th does with 4.10’s. So yeah I lose 8th gear technically, unless going down hill, but overall the stress on the jeep would be similar since the rpm range would be basically the same. Just 7th instead of 8th.

I went with 5.13 also and on a recent trip that was 600 miles away i got 320 miles to a tank (granted it was a ton mtn freeway driving at 70-75). I accept it didn't build this for the freeway. Offroad its fantastic I dont miss the original tires, I only miss losing the bed as the 38 won't fit in the spare tire holder
