Alright, story time! We’ve all had that one moment where the right lighting setup made all the difference.
I’ve got a few good ones (some way more stupid than others), but the one that stuck with me was from when I first moved out west to a little town called Steamboat Springs, Colorado, right in a valley surrounded by mountains. One night I got caught driving home in a full-on blizzard. Being an east coaster my whole life, I was just happy I had snow tires on and wasn’t sliding off the road (I had no clue). But then it got bad… like white wall of snow in front of my windshield bad. My headlights were reflecting straight back at me, and I couldn’t even tell where the road ended or the shoulder began.
By some miracle (and my little yellow fog lights on that Mazda 3), I made it back into town and found my way home. I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated amber lighting more in my life. That was long before I got into the lighting industry, but it’s a lesson that stuck with me: never underestimate good fogs in bad weather (and don’t worry, I learned a lot by driving in the snow! Holy!!!)
So what about you? When did your lights really prove their worth — or maybe when did you realize you needed better ones? The “oh sh*t, I can’t see a thing” moments count too! Let’s hear ‘em!
