I'm prepping my Rubicon Gobi order and realizing that it's better to have the dealer upgrade my tires right off the bat than to have to deal with the annoyance of selling old, lightly used 33" tires. But I could really use a tire recommendation, as I really don't know what to look for...
For pure MPG considerations I'm not adding a lift or using 37" tires. Mid-size trucks have bad enough MPG, I refuse to make it that much worse. (Yeah, yeah, I know, but this is the hill I've chosen to die on.) This truck will also be my daily driver around town. I don't drive much around town though, probably averaging only 6k miles a year, not including fun trips into the hills.
However, since I'm not adding a lift I could really use that extra ground clearance that 35" tires will give me, plus I really prefer the look of the Gladiator with some bigger beefier tires. I'm fine with using the standard wheels unless ya'll tell me that good 35" tires need something more than that. Trick is, I live in Las Vegas. I MIGHT see mud once or twice a year, but it will be so rare for me that mud tires aren't needed. My primary fun driving will be off-road hard-pack uneven dirt with occasional large rocks sticking out to say hello. Think Mojave desert or Canyonlands National Park type driving. No big Moab-level rock crawling, but plenty of rough dirt roads that would bottom out a lesser pickup truck.
Any thoughts/recommendations? Thanks!!!!
