Probably due to fender interference when disconnected. So, I bought this lift for my JT overland. In the specs it says Tire &Wheel fitting and list’s only 8.5” wide wheels for use with this lift. What happens if I use 9.5” wide wheels?Any Idea why they only recommend 8.5” wide wheels.
That would probably depend on offset/backspacing. A 9.5” wheel will likely work fine if it is within a reasonable spec.Probably due to fender interference when disconnected.
I'm guessing with 3.5" backspacing on a 13.5" wide tire. Worst case scenario. That would probably depend on offset/backspacing. A 9.5” wheel will likely work fine if it is within a reasonable spec.
Sorry, but I think a 9.5” wide wheel with only 3.5” backspacing would be a ridiculous wheel for a Jeep. That’s -44 offset.I'm guessing with 3.5" backspacing on a 13.5" wide tire. Worst case scenario.

Back spacing is dictated by lift and tire size. With a lift over 2.5" and a 37" tire Metalcloak and Rock Krawler recommends no more than 4.5 of back spacing and with a 40" tire they recommend no more than 3.5" of back spacing. OP- Search the JL sure for people using the equivalent lift, and see what wheels they are using. As long as it’s a wheel designed to reasonably work with a JL or JT, you will probably be fine.
OK, but I’m pretty sure the OP isn’t going to run 40” tires with his/her 2.5” lift. I’ll concede that there are applications for a 9.5” wide wheel with 3.5” backspacing if 40” tires are in order.Back spacing is dictated by lift and tire size. Now Icon has some really weird shocks and they are huge maybe their rim size recommendations are based on using their shocks as there could be some interference with a wider rim.
