I was dropping off some money at the local food bank for my wife and saw this red Wrangler there - and decided to park next to it for kicks and to compare some things...... mine seemed so small.

Great find! This is not really my cup of tea and I didn’t do research on the subject, but was this Willys a 4X4 vehicle?

My grandfather, a high school principal, drove one of these Jeepster. As kids back in the ‘60s, we thought riding in the red Jeep was the best adventure ever. As a teenager, I learned more about the car. The Jeepsters of this era were all 2 wheel drive (though many have been customized to 4x4 over the years). 4 cylinder “Go Devil” flat head engine, “3 on the tree” shifters, full soft tops Including snap-on side curtains. Likely the most unusual feature was the front suspension. A single, transverse (side to side!) leaf spring operated both front wheels. As I recall these were only made for about 3 years in the late ‘40s to early ‘50s with a total of about 20,000 sold. Pretty hard to come by these days. Unfortunately the Jeepster went to an older grandson when he passed in the early ‘70s. Fortunately that grandson still owns and cares for it.

I believe it was a two-wheel drive
