Good luck getting a base model.
I heard that Ford had closed orders for the Maverick.

Kevin
$24,350 was not for a base truck. It was for an XLT.

Besides, some of us want what we want. We order and wait. If we can't order then we can still order through a dealer.

Surely you understand that this is a temporary situation. Patience.

Interesting as to how much money some folks spend to make a truck less of a truck. BTW, I am a Ford person but the maverick is hideious. Too girly looking. M2C

What's girly about it? It's a compact truck, like the original ranger. It fills a niche that a lot of people want filled. Less a truck? It has more payload than many gladiators, and a decent tow rating. It's a great product at a great price for a lot of people. The ones I've seen in person I like a lot. Ford knocked it out of the park. But I'm also a fan of the Subaru Baja, the Brat, the el Camino , the ranchero, etc. This one does the job. If I didn't want my Jeep for off road driving, It would more than meet all of my "truck" needs

Don't get me wrong, but I've been running some numbers. For what I spent on the Gladiator, I could buy an XLT Maverick and a decently outfitted 2 door Wrangler. Ha.

I think it is one of the most important vehicles made in the last ten years. The Maverick shows that practicality, efficiency and value can be put together in the same package.
Absolutely. And I don't think its going to steal many Ranger or Gladiator sales.

IMHO, its going to steal a lot from vehicles like the Rav4 and Forester. Outdoorsy people who haul tents and kayaks and stuff like that. With a cap its like a 40 mpg runabout with as much cargo space as a Suburban.

A coworker ordered one last August, turned in his trade, went without a vehicle (used his wife’s car), hasn’t seen the maverick yet, agreed on a bronco sport as a compromise two weeks ago, and was just told his original order is on permanent hold!

He’s not real happy right now, to say the least!

He’s going to be really upset when I show up with my JT Willys on Tuesday (it was delivered yesterday - ordered in November). ?

Too bad it's not built in America, that's a deal breaker for me

how else do you think I afford the gladiator?
Also, I’m Ron Jeremy’s son ;)
T.M.I. especially when photo has other stuff in background ?

Now back to the Maverick....
Well it's a nice looking truck "IMHO" that definitely fills a gap in vehicles available. Same reason I got my MJ in 91, I didn't need a full size truck. Along with that I find most people don't need but need to stroke their egos trucks. I'm still not needing a big sized truck, something capable of pulling my 16ft. Scamp, 4 wheeler, pontoon boat or a small to medium sized trailer loaded maybe 5000 lbs cargo. If the Ford Ranger (or something else but a chevy) had been a solid axle truck I probably would have got it.
We are coming a "full circle" again of fuel crisis like the 70s again..... Hmmm I will stop on that.
Could a compact vehicle work for me yes as long as I could park it somewhere but my land "driveway". So I might amicable to the Maverick but not in my budget now. It should be capable, but a 4×4 F150 did get stuck in my driveway. ;)

Hard disagree on the first point. I have two neighbors who traded in their Ranger and Colorado for one already and they're in love.

This is what the Ridgeline needs to be instead of trying to compete with the actual trucks in the market. The sacrifices made by going unibody and AWD aren't worth the few extra MPG but when you're talking literally double while still retaining a competitive bed and payload then you start turning heads.

The bed is very slightly smaller than the Gladiator, the payload competes with the Max Tow and Ranger that dwarf the Tacoma and GM twins, it gets 30mpg all day long, and it's as easy to drive as any CUV.

I would say about 15% of the market off roads or tows heavy enough to need an acutal pickup. For the rest I'm going to agree with @Litfuse... this might be the crossroads in the market where a real effort is put into making a unibody truck that is usable as a truck and it's going to be a huge hit with fleet.

I'm a Subaru guy at heart. I'd love one of those with an sti drivetrain
It was already very close. It came with the same 2.5 block but with a smaller turbo and smaller intercooler. They responded very well to tuning.

It was very easy and cheap to make the Baja into a hot rod. And it wasn't any slouch even stock.

The old Forester XT with a WRX motor was a serious sleeper. At one point in time it had the second quickest quarter mile time of any SUV sold in the US. Second only to the Porsche Cayenne.

You are definitely right about the Ridgeline. Too big, too expensive. My dad is probably the only one I know who uses a Ridgeline like Honda thinks prioeple use it. He regularly tows a race car 2-400 miles. He has no use for a pickup truck. What he wants is a car that can tow.

Re Maverick mileage. People are getting much better than 30 mpg all day long with FWD and the hybrid drivetrain. Closer to 40.
