In Europe the registration tag ("license plate" here) on the vehicle denotes when it arrived. So no matter what year the vehicle is called, the tag tells the truth when it was first registered.

There were 96 Wranglers. They were exported YJs.
All vehicles 96 and later required airbags. The YJ was not getting them. So they sold YJs here as 95s made until 12/31/95. Normally once September comes, the cars made are all next year's model.
If you search overseas, there are 1996 YJs.
Should function just like a bikini top with a rear curtain. I assume all the support bows slide along the door surrounds. I'd also bet that they slide in a channel that runs down to the top of the bed. All you'd remove is the rear curtain.
