With multiple Jeeps, I had 35 x 12.5 17s on mine without spacers I had to go to full lock to get a little rub.

With the level you can fit the 295/70R17 without a spacer. It only places it at 11.6" anything wider than that you will have rub.

Did you down size your tires? I thought the Willy's came with 285/70/17 stock like Rubicons. The largest thing that you need to do is to change the tire size in the computer. This effects your shift point. Guys go up to 37s on Rubicons all of the time without regearing right away.
