  1. Recovery gear in jt.

Without shackles and how I would rig most of the time. As the system loads the stakes flex toward the vehicle causing the straps to slip upwards. Each successive strap holds the other down and the eyelet keeps them on the shaft. Thus the eye is not really loaded (some shear stress but...
  2. Recovery gear in jt.

A point of clarification on rigging my setup. I do not use the welded eye as a loading point. I use it to prevent straps from slipping off the top as the rebar will bend forward as it is loaded. You want to minimize chances of failure points and I do not trust my welding that much. In this...
  3. Recovery gear in jt.

Yes. Pound in and connect to the next one with straps in series. Then connect to your winch. This is where I have used this technique a lot. But with three anchors (there are some incorrect issues in this picture from a climbing perspective but this is not the point here). Essentially...
  4. Recovery gear in jt.

My list of recovery crap is about the same as @BruteForce and @Jowen with a few additions. My kit is certainly over the top but that is because I am stupid and typically go explore solo for multiple days at a time (I pair it down significantly in the rare trips I have with another vehicle). I...
  5. Is Lift and Larger Tires Necessary for Overlanding

I am not sure our definitions are all that different actually. I was responding more from the perspective of what the OP indicated his needs were (no rock crawling). As for myself I roughly estimate that I can typically explore something like 60% all dirt roads in the 4Corners Area without...
  6. Is Lift and Larger Tires Necessary for Overlanding

While I have zero off road experience in Arizona I do have 40 years worth exploring all over Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, and Colorado. I do not personally consider Moab as an overlanding experience, unless using mountain bikes. Many trails around Moab require mods certainly. But the majority of...
  7. Is Lift and Larger Tires Necessary for Overlanding

In my opinion the vast majority of “overlanding” trips/trails can be done with a stock jeep.
  8. Shake, rattle, and roll...

15,000 miles. Lots of off road and rough dirt roads (probably 50+ hours in 4 low). Never had top or doors off. The only sound I get is when driving in a cross wind and my fender liners get sucked into the tires, again.
  9. What did you do WITH your Gladiator today?

Won’t go back to CO for a few days as I need to see family in St. George and Salt Lake City. I suspect we are close to max payload. Definitely feels squishy now. But I still need to load up all our food and clothing we left in the hotel. The 2 elk are pushing 500 lbs is my guess. They are...
  10. RLD designs pic request

Hmmm. How many rotopax are you thinking of mounting on each side? Mine are 2 gallon models and full are about 15 lbs (fuel). 2 rotopax with water would be closer to 34 lbs.
  11. What did you do WITH your Gladiator today?

Well, “darn”. Put an early end to our 10 day hunting and 4x4 expedition. Now we have to wander back to Colorado with 2 cow elk added to the payload. One day of scouting and one very short morning put a quick end to that vacation ... Bottom line on the JTR on this trip: Awesome. Certainly...

Yes I believe the solid side doors can carry rotopax. But they would be a pain to open. I plan to make a rack inside just beside the door to mount mine. Same with max trax.

A bit of an update while I sit on the side of a mountain waiting for first light and hoping for a glimpse of 4 legged critters wandering around the snowy hillside. First trip with the RLD. This is a 10 day elk hunt with my son and “camping” in the Best Western style. But still carrying the...
  14. What did you do WITH your Gladiator today?

Anything above 8500 feet has 12” of old hard snow. Half a day in, stuck 4 times. Chained up for almost a half tank of gas so far.
  15. What did you do WITH your Gladiator today?

Yup. Lots of mud. Side tour into the San Rafael Swell to do some last minute sighting in and some crawling. Maybe I should have bought a red JT???
  16. What did you do WITH your Gladiator today?

Drove past the Moab exit. Quite beautiful this morning. Going to be some serious mud and snow wheeling over the next 10 days. Son and I are off on a chilly elk hunt.
  17. What did you do WITH your Gladiator today?

Went out to the Grasslands to practice a bit of long range shooting and came across a couple of very unprepared firefighters. They didn't even have a shovel.

Here are some images of the strut mounts inside the RLD shell. I have mounted KC lights and the BuiltRight shovel mounts. I wanted to put the MaxTrax up there but upside down is a pain in the butt so I have bailed on that idea for now.

Sure. I need to mount up some items this weekend and will post then.
