You've peeked my interest...what would the officer do if the placard is missing? I lost mine on my current Jeep many years ago. (Not trying to be difficult, but given my current situation I'm curious.)
Worked for me, thanks for posting!
Crazy how good those guys are, making it through sections with no lockers that I probably couldn't do *with* lockers!
The last jeep I bought was my '05 WK Hemi. Still have it. I followed that from rumor to release and bought it as soon as I could get one built with my specs. Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't recall pricing being released so late after the official announcement. I know that was awhile ago so...
I haven't looked into that. I have been in Germany and witnessed VW Jettas towing RVs the same size as mine. It comes down to what you're willing to risk vs what our government paid engineers say is acceptable, which is gospel for the insurance companies.
This is the direction I'm leading, just wanted to spell out what a Sport build-up would look like. I'm currently in a GC with 7200 lbs towing capacity and 720 lbs tongue weight limit (stock ratings, but my Jeep is far from stock these days), and pull around an RV with a GVWR of 3800 lbs, so no...
The only reference I've seen to the wide 4.10 axle is on the max tow package, no reference to a wide axle on the Rubicon that I've seen. Maybe I've just missed it but I thought that may contribute to the higher tow rating. If you're right, my build may be easier than I thought.
I may be a bit in the minority here, but with my mixed use of wheeling and RV towing my perfect trim would be a Rubicon with 7650lbs towing. Looking at current options I see two choices:
Buy a Rubicon with the tow package and go to the aftermarket for:
Wider front & rear axles, Dana 44 or 60...
At the end of the build tool on jeep.com, I noticed a "weight distribution" section on the Summary tab under the Dimensions and Capacities section. Regardless of build options, it's always "Not Available". Anyone know what that's referring to? A factory sway control capability for towing, perhaps?
I'm a fan of the "don't negotiate" philosophy. When I bought my 2005 Grand Cherokee, I knew exactly what I wanted and what I wanted to pay. I worked with an auto broker who did the leg work to find the jeep I wanted and ship it to my city. Best buying experience I ever had.
Similar size RV, but a Winnebago Drop. Integrated brake controller and tranny cooler would be a must. It would also be nice if the backup camera field of view captures the hitch so I can line up the trailer without getting out of the jeep 5 times when hooking up.
I'll give it a shot but I'll probably be looking to disable it. I have it on my wife's car and I always turn it off when I'm driving, and that's in the city. Maybe in the Jeep it will auto-disable if you throw it in 4wd? I'd hate for it to turn off when wheeling on a steep hill, too.
No worries. I wish I could delete this post, though, and consolidate so the conversation is in one place. I guess if nothing else it's adding some activity to the forum!
