  1. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

Or maybe (just maybe) I should be able to opt out of a feature that has zero safety benefits and is stated *in the manual* to possibly "result in an accident involving serious injury or death". WAHHH!!!
  2. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

I think that's fair and you ought to consider yourself lucky that Jeep's default security/convenience configuration overlaps perfectly with what you consider ideal. Personally (and philosophically) I'd like this choice to be the owner's.
  3. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

In all honesty it's a principles thing for me. It's not about will I get hacked. It's about should I be in control of the balance my own vehicle strikes between security and convenience. There goes my libertarianism again...
  4. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

Prevention or reaction, take your pick.

  6. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

Excellent writeup! The only scenario I can imagine where someone would bother to hack my vehicle would be if the hack were part of a large scale attack targeting as many vehicles as possible, probably simultaneously and perpetrated by a state actor in order to cause disruption.
  7. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

If it were that simple there would be no hacks.
  8. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

Worrying won't help but not enabling this sort of user access in the first place will, and successfully disabling it after it's been enabled is also good. As I said above there is potentially a lot more at stake here than unlocks and remote starts although it hasn't been a problem on a large...
  9. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

I assure you I do. IT security is clearly not your primary role at work.
  10. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

Security and convenience are always a tradeoff.
  11. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

As you surely know, software (especially this kind of proprietary software) is potentially vulnerable to attack in undiscovered ways (or discovered but secret ways in the case of SolarWinds and countless others) and punching a hole through another layer of security without user authorization...
  12. Dangerous control of my Jeep over the internet

I don't think any control of a vehicle over the internet is safe so I never opt into it. I just got a Gladiator and apparently my dealer signed me up for a Mopar account and connected my new Jeep to it. I logged in and see that the following things can be done to it by anyone with my Mopar...

Does anyone know if this is the old or new steering box?
  14. Going MY2020 for Gobi

Is there any info out there on inspecting the steering box to know for sure?
  15. Going MY2020 for Gobi

Any idea about what date that seemed to get fixed?
  16. Going MY2020 for Gobi

Is this a safety issue? Its a Mojave and I do have the window sticker. How can I find the build date and then figure out if it has the new steering box?
  17. Going MY2020 for Gobi

Ah I could make the purchase contingent on my dealership doing the fix. Anybody tried that?
  18. Going MY2020 for Gobi

Since they deleted Gobi paint for 2021 I have to choose between diesel and Gobi and it looks like Gobi will win but before I commit I thought I'd check with you guys to see what I'll miss from 2021 besides diesel.
  19. Any rumors for 2022 Gladiator changes?

About when should we know the 2022 colors? Please bring back Gobi. AEV wants $12k to turn a 2021 Gobi...
  20. Rent a JT?

Are there any companies that rent these? I'm about to order one but need a vehicle in the meantime and it would be great to rent one for a couple months.
