I bought a 2020 off the lot to get Gator. I feel your pain! It was a no-brainer for me. The other issues can be fixed if I run into them. The big decision for you is how much you want the diesel.

Is there any info out there on inspecting the steering box to know for sure?

The new steering box is steel so they had to paint it, the old one was aluminum so they left it bare metal. So if it's silver it's the old one and if it's black it's the new one.

LSD was available on all 2020 trims except Rubicon and Mojave, which for obvious reasons they don't need.
Early Sports with the max tow package were all open diff, LSD was added to builds sometime in late 2019 or early 2020.

I think it was early 2020.
Yeah, mine was ordered in January and built in February and got LSD. But I think I ordered right after they made the switch, just not sure if I made the cutoff by days or weeks. So I assume the switch was likely Dec 2019 or early Jan 2020. But I have no data points other then in mid Jan when I ordered mine they had made the switch already.
