Are they still forcing these options?
They could have forced basically any other $800-1000 option, and I would just suck it up. I'm ready to order, but I really don't want the safety package.

How is the noise level? (I've heard some people complain about rattling with other brands of retractables.)

Tell me about the function of your tonneau. Can you open and close the tailgate without having to move the tonneau? How is the seal?

If I were in your boat, I would start adjusting the steering box. You are kind of in a "nothing-to-lose" situation if your steering is still that bad.
Is the JL box the same as the JT? I think quadratec sells JL boxes.
I'm interested. Maybe you could just do a brief intro paragraph of each the various topics and then flesh them out one at a time so it doesn't turn into a doctoral dissertation dumped on us all at once.
After reading a truckload of steering related threads, I don't think there is just one problem. Tire pressure may be the issue for some, but there can be other issues. If I had poor steering on a dead stock truck, I would do the following in order:
