  1. Ess Gremlin NEED HELP

Bad Z fuse (fuse N3) will keep the Aux positive side isolated from the main battery and the alternator. The aux battery will discharge with no way to be recharged by the alternator. It runs a bunch of the electronics so those things will start getting glitchy. Your mention of it working fine...
  2. Let's See Your Personalized Plates

After having it a few years, I'm trading in my old vanity plate for a new one. It is hard to find a really good letter combo that isn't already taken but after trying a gazillion ideas I found a decent one that was still available. "GEAR BOX" should be arriving soon. Seems appropriate for a...
  3. Feds Surveillance Tech Mandatory 2027 [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

This technology is fraught with potential problems. Will it be able to see through dark sunglasses on a bright summer's day? Or do I have to drive while blinded by the sunlight? Can you override it if it won't let you move your car but you need to take your child to the hospital? Will it...
  4. Fixing a crashed race Jeep (JT)

He missed by a mile. Did the engine cut out or did he forget the jump was there?
  5. ❓ Tire inflation question

Get on an interstate and compare your odometer/trip meter vs the mile markers. The further you go, the more accurate this will be. Divide the actual miles by trip miles. Multiply that by whatever is currently in the computer as tire size. That's your actual tire size. Plug that into the...
  6. Consumer Reports LOL

Not at all the same. Good try, though.
  7. Consumer Reports LOL

Still agree with him. A silver fox in a Caddy is preferable, especially when acquired years ago with low mileage.
  8. Consumer Reports LOL

Sure it is. I'm with him on this. I might have test driven a blue haired Prius driver but I certainly wouldn't have ended up with one. (Note that at the time there were few to no blue hairs, they added that characteristic later, and no Priuses either)
  9. Heresy? road tires on a Rubicon? ETA- now a shock install

I thought my 2023 was very wallowy on the road when I got it (new) and the rear was far too softly sprung as compared to the front. It felt like I was driving a pickup that was way overloaded with a high centered load. Bilstein 5100's all around made it far less wallowy. Max Tow rear coils...
  10. aux dies every 5k miles neg lead reads 22v! delete doesnt work help!

No expert here but the wiring diagrams show N2 to have no fuse of its own. N2 is the main battery connection and feeds N3 through N7, which do have fuses (100A-300A each). If you were measuring your 22V from the disconnected negative post of the one battery to the connected positive post of...
  11. How much Jeep glitter is too much Jeep glitter? Metal in oil filter.

I'll probably do it from here on, unless whatever it is starts causing obvious symptoms. I've never felt the need to take oil samples other than with my old Cummins when I was doing extended oil change intervals. Actually, this is the first time I've ever given an oil filter a close...
  12. How much Jeep glitter is too much Jeep glitter? Metal in oil filter.

I changed my oil today. 27,700 total miles, about 4,500 miles since last change. Found scattered teeny silvery particles. Magnet will pick them up. It was difficult to get a good photo, the particles just look lke dust in the photo. The filter looks pretty dirty, too, for such short miles of...
  13. Consumer Reports LOL

I quit looking at CR vehicle ratings years ago when I was in the market for a new truck and was trying to do some research. The more car-like a vehicle was, the more glowing the review and the higher the scores. Every real truck got lower ratings for being "truck like". All the things I wanted...
  14. Lower running boards?

If you are talking about the running boards, it is doubtful you'll find any solid ones that extend that far down. They would get ripped off or damaged too easily. But you might try looking at electrically retractable steps. Thing is, though, if is it 6" from ground to step, it will likely be...
  15. What’s With The Jeep Wave?

It bothers me that Jeep/Stellantis uses the wave in marketing and such. The wave has nothing to do with the corporation and they shouldn't be trying to attach themselves to it. It's kind of like when adults start trying to use adolescent slang. It doesn't make them cool or with it, it does just...
  16. Any tricks for keeping new shocks compressed for install?

Ratchet strap. Make a loop. Compress the shock and slip the strap on. Adjust it to about the right length. Put the top bolt in. Fine tune the length to get the bottom bolt to slip in. Let the strap loose and use it on the next one. The great part is being able to fine tune the length, and jiggle...
  17. Wicked pop sound

Shimmed mine. Took test drive. Didn't hear any popping. Sounding good so far. Thanks.
  18. Wrong power steering fluid top off

There is a specific procedure to follow to get the air out after draining the system. It requires a hand operated vacuum pump along with the usual lock to lock a bunch of times. There are warnings about running with air in the system. I assume like most systems that use fluids, it might take...
  19. Show me your high mileage 3.6 with oil recommendations !

The important word in all that is "CAN". Comparing a poorly formulated 5W30 to a well formulated 0W20 to say 0W20 CAN perform better than 5W30 is disingenuous. I don't care what oil anyone else uses. 0W20, 5W30, 90 weight gear oil, whatever. Anyone can use whatever they want. And I can't say...
  20. Show me your high mileage 3.6 with oil recommendations !

0W20 shears down to something thinner than 0W20. 5W30 shears down to something thinner than 5W30. It has a ways to shear before getting to 0 or 20. If 0W20 is already at the bare minimum, 5W30 provides a margin of error. If 0W20 is not the bare miminum, 5W30 provides an additional margin of error.
