  1. Spare tire worth the upgrade?

My local DT does 5 tire rotation for me - no fuss. I’ve run 5 of the same tire/wheel for a long time. Whether it’s worth it depends how you use your rig I guess. I’d be concerned about damaging drive line if I were to put on one small tire and travel a ways in 4WD. I’d buy 5 same tires before...
  2. 2022 Rumors?

When is it the WRONG time to talk about CJs? ?
  3. 2022 Rumors?

Off Topic: earlier someone said the 304 produced 120-something HP - which didn’t sound right, so I looked up the specs on the old AMC engines. The 258 I-6 that was in my 1978 CJ-7 made 150 HP and 240 Lb/ft torque. That engine was great! The carburetor was not so great ;) The 304 V8 made 210...
  4. Will there be a 392 Gladiator? If not.........

I’m with you 100%. The engine you are describing is sort of the GM 5.3 aluminum block. I know the 5.3 is a little bigger than what you are calling for, but it’s such a compact design it would fit great in a wrangler/JT. Great power (for a Jeep), and very little weight increase over the 3.6...
  5. New Jeep "mod" has changed my Jeep life! - Jabra ear buds

Didn’t know those were an option - and a great option for certain circumstances. Thanks for the info!
  6. New Jeep "mod" has changed my Jeep life! - Jabra ear buds

In my experience, noise cancellation blocks “white noise” like the drone of an airplane engine, or the engine and wind noise in a vehicle. You actually hear other noise - like voices, sirens, or horns - better. The reduction of white noise reduces fatigue and can keep you more alert. That’s my...
  7. Man I'm getting pissed

Thanks a lot - I really appreciate your detailed reply. All this makes sense and corresponds to what I've been reading - but I don't have your insider vantage point. Its really helpful to hear from someone who works in the industry. Again - thanks for the response!
  8. Man I'm getting pissed

In your opinion, what is causing shipping costs to rise so much? Has global shipping increased to levels higher than the pre-Covid norm? Is there a shortage of dock workers (longshoremen)? Is it a combination of the two? If there is a shortage of dock workers, are they sick or are they choosing...
  9. EcoDiesel in the (very) cold?

Hi, I think you might have mis-read the manual. Unfortunately, DEF freezes at about 11 or 12 degrees Fahrenheit (which is -11 degrees Celsius); so that is about 20 degrees warmer than what you presented above. Here are a couple of sources; the second one is from Cummins, and they definitely know...
  10. Help me not buy a Ranger Tremor

WARNING, THREAD-JACKING FOLLOWS: No other info - sorry! You are 100% correct in your description (except 3rd Gen Tacomas began in 2017). I got a 2017 manual transmission, Access Cab, 6-foot bed, but it was only available in the Sport (no rear locker). I'm really hoping that Jeep makes an access...
  11. Help me not buy a Ranger Tremor

You and I test drive a lot of the same trucks - a list that doesn’t make sense to other people - but I get it. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that you can get a manual transmission Tacoma with a 6 foot bed (I did), but not with lockers (you have to buy a Sport). I think you made the right...
  12. Decked truck bed. Has anyone got one and how do you like it?

I’m not a defender of Decked - but I do want to point out that it is not held in by double sided tape. There are stainless steel anchors at each corner that hook into tie down points. It is quite well anchored. However, the lids for the small “ammo cans” are not super secure, and if you are...
  13. Car and Driver has posted a 10,000 mile update to their long term Gladiator review. Pretty negative

So true. No way you are ever in 6th gear doing 30. That’s just silly. If you are cruising at 50, you’re probably in 5th, but even if you were in 6th, if you want to accelerate you downshift. That’s driving a manual 101. It seems that C&D wants to standardize tests and grade on that scale. In a...
  14. Death Valley 2020 Overlanding Trip

Understood. Angles in video can get distorted (steep off-road climbs, for example, almost never look steep in a video). I just saw the blue sky behind the target on the left and that caught my attention. Looks like you had a great trip!
  15. Death Valley 2020 Overlanding Trip

Not trying to hassle you, but is this sufficiently backstopped? Hard to tell from the video. Good ethics are important to prevent the rolling back of 2nd Am. rights.
  16. Assholes giving the bird

Hey redrider, I hope you know that I was just satirizing the whole "that's not a real Jeep" attitude, and I wasn't directing that at you. I'd love to have a CJ2 in my garage. All the best!
  17. Assholes giving the bird

46? That’s new age. Not a real Jeep. I only wave to Jeep’s with battle scars from WWII. ?
  18. Fully Enclosed Gladiator

Thanks! That's a good experience to hear about. Thanks to comments like yours and some more research I've done, I've given up on the idea. Its remarkable how many people are actually trying to solve the same problem I was working: bed too short (for whatever reason), how to sleep in the truck...
  19. Fully Enclosed Gladiator

Yeah maybe, but I'm not the only one. In this thread: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/sleeping-in-a-jt.41157/ ...folks are trying to figure out how to sleep in a Gladiator, and are finding that the backseat is too small, as is the bed of the truck. A fully enclosed Gladiator...
  20. 37 inch spare tire

Thread revival! Its too bad you can only get the Ridge Grappler in 37x11.5 on an 18-inch wheel. I looked at some other brands and almost no one makes a 37x11.5 regardless of wheel size - which again - is too bad - because the narrower tire would actually be better in winter for on-road...
