  1. Ecodiesel power derating as temps rise?

A lot of engineering goes into engine bay designs with regard to air flow to maximize cooling. It is my understanding that messing with the design can have unintended consequences, and you might end up reducing air flow. But heck, I'm not an engineer, and you might know exactly what you are...
  2. I’m calling BULL

This ^^ Heavy tires/wheels will affect acceleration, braking, and cornering. They also place more wear on steering components. Regearing can bring the truck back into factory-designed ratios, but the mass is still there. But if it matters to you, you can find light wheels and light tires that...
  3. Interesting fleet of JT test mules in Colorado mountains 6-28-21 PIX ATTACHED

They've been developing a 3-liter Inline turbo-charged 6. It hasn't been put in a vehicle yet, but it might be coming in the Grand Cherokee next year: https://www.motor1.com/news/516432/jeep-grand-cherokee-tornado-engine/
  4. What do you guys do? Shop issue with re-gear

Unfortunately, this is just how things go sometimes. Think of all the jobs you’ve done around the house or on your vehicle: you need to make an extra trip to the hardware store, or some bolt is rusted and what should take a minute takes an hour. How you react to setbacks is entirely up to you...

Ahhh, you took the thought right out of my head! A guy can dream...
  6. My rear seat delete

I know this thread is really old , but wow! Nice work! This looks nicer than the Goose Gear production version. Theirs is wood coated with Line-X. You could sell this if you wanted to!
  7. Armorlite or just Bedline cab floor?

Yeah, I was thinking about that too... Maybe its all a matter of degree - which will off-gas the least? I've actually been digging around a bit since I posted, and haven't found a source that I think is reliable yet. Anyone know of any decent research on the topic? P.S. If you had quoted my...
  8. Armorlite or just Bedline cab floor?

From what I understand, bedliner contains some carcinogenic materials and shouldn’t be used inside the cab. Increased risk of lung cancer. I’m not a medical doctor, so you should do your own research and decide for yourself - but it seems like it’s worth looking into. Good luck!
  9. Payload Questions

Hey there, you are writing like you are disagreeing with my post regarding liability, but this is exactly what I said. A driver of an overloaded vehicle can be held liable for any damages that result from an accident, and can be denied coverage by their insurance company. Maybe our wires got...
  10. Payload Questions

    Gotcha! Sorry I missed that!
  11. Jeep Announces Wrangler Xtreme Recon Package

The Extreme Recon package is way overpriced. Not compared to aftermarket cost - but that is not the correct comparison. When you buy aftermarket, you are buying your tires, lift, and gears at retail price. The Recon package should be priced based on the difference in price between the 33 inch...
  12. Payload Questions

The GVWR varies between the diesel and gas versions. I think I got this info from a video produced by Brad at Trail Recon (remember that payload can vary depending on options): Gas Rubicon Ecodiesel Rubicon GVWR 6,250 6,450 Payload 1,174 973 Curb Weight 5,076 5,477 An overloaded...
  13. Jeep Announces Wrangler Xtreme Recon Package

Maybe this has been said already, but to me the greatest thing about this package is the gearing from the factory. Getting factory gears that are a correct match to one's prefered tire size (sorry to the 40-inch crowd) is a game changer and long overdue! Thanks Ford!
  14. Jeep Announces Wrangler Xtreme Recon Package

True, the size of the tire doesn't vary based on whether they are listed in metric or in inches, but in the "inch-measurements" its often easier to find Load Range D or E. Of course, the "best" load range is case-specific, and is determined by end-use (vehicle weight, payload expectations...
  15. Jeep acknowledges big demand for 392 Gladiator V8

Whoa - I've been looking for news on this - thanks for posting! This is awesome! This is the power train I've been waiting for (since I'm skeptical that we will ever see a reasonable priced 5.7 Hemi Gladiator). Some folks might disagree, but if the Tornado makes its way into the Gladiator, I...
  16. Jeep acknowledges big demand for 392 Gladiator V8

Respectfully - I think you might be underestimating the importance of rising CAFE standards. It is driving so much change in the auto industry: aluminum body panels, lighter frames made from high-strength steel, start-stop technology, and of course hybrid engines, and full EV. Auto companies are...
  17. Jeep acknowledges big demand for 392 Gladiator V8

Due to the high cost, there is little real demand for a 392 Gladiator, so Jeep will probably produce it as a halo model to generate excitement, but limited sales. On the other hand, there is huge demand for a reasonably priced 5.7 Gladiator, and it would sell like crazy. By "reasonably priced" I...
  18. Jeep acknowledges big demand for 392 Gladiator V8

FCA was working on a gas-powered 3.0 liter turbo inline 6 a few years ago, and in 2019 filed a patent for it. They were referring to it as the Tornado. No noise on that for a couple of years though. https://www.autoblog.com/2019/11/12/fiat-chrysler-patent-turbo-inline-six-engine/ I prefer a NA...
  19. Moving from Vegas to Northern Minnesota

I live at 8,500 feet in the Colorado Rockies - our winters are different, but still long, cold, and snowy. It’s -20 to -30 F almost every morning in mid-winter. I gave up on chains about 30 years ago. No one who lives in the mountains here runs chains. You only see chains on big rigs on the...
  20. Gladiator Rubicon Diesel Bottom Out issue

He had his lift done by Trail Jeeps in Golden, CO and they are big on JKS. Trail Jeeps Is a great shop but tend to recommend from a narrow range of products. I’ll repeat though, since I have no intention of throwing shade: Trail Jeeps is a great shop known for high quality work.
