I've owned 2 Wranglers prior to Vlad (also owned a 1985 Cherokee).
Both Wranglers were bought used. A 1991 that I drove until it died about 15 years later (it was driven by two of my kids).
In 2018 I bought a 2005 Wrangler Unlimited (Unlimited were longer 2 doors back then) with only 30K...
I would.
Unless you count putting a mat in the bed and adding a rack on the roof for skis, that‘s what I did.
Sport model. Works well in the snow for hauling light stuff.
Not gonna rock crawl here. No plans for further mods.
Thanks,
I can't explain it, but now I know a workaround. Hit the start button with the transmission in reverse and the zoom will work.
I pull the boat maybe 10 times a year. Not worth a trip to the dealer to sort it out (and I suspect they might no able to).
Cheers!
I have a manual transmission. I had constant trouble with the Zoom. Hardly ever worked, but sometimes did.
Finally figured out that if start Vlad in reverse with the clutch in, the zoom works. If not, it doesn't.
Curious about other experiences with autos / manuals.
BINGO! Thanks acyuncw!
You gave me a hint. If you start the vehicle in Reverse (with the clutch in ..... I have a manual) the Zoom works every time.
If you start in any other gear, the Zoom does not work.
Do you have a manual or auto? I see there are few other threads on this topic out...
The zoom feature on my backup camera sometime works, and sometimes doesn't.
I know you have to be less than 8 MPH to zoom in. I am inching back to hook up a trailer and it won't always zoom.
Lately, anytime I am backing up I give the zoom a try and every now and then it will work. Most times...
I will need to keep more accurate records when I fill up rather than just trusting the instrument. One more thing. I filled up the boat with Premium (no ethanol) and also added about 3/4 of a tank to the Vlad the Glad. I suspect this helped quite a bit as I have not typically seen numbers...
This was a mostly hwy trip. 70 miles averaging about 45 mph with a maximum of 58 mph. 29.5 MPG
Stock Sport Trim with manual transmission.
I get around 25 MPG around town. Can't complain.
Manual tranny a bit more fuel efficient perhaps?
My only mod to my Sport was a roof rack for skis. Too long to fit in bed with tailgate closed and tonneau cover on.
Not a big off-roader or rock crawler, but I do like to get the cabin in the winter to X-C ski or go skijoring.
JT (Vlad the Glad) lets me get down the driveway without shoveling...
Vlad the Glad is perfect for me! I used to have a 2013 Nissan Frontier for occasional hauling and a 2005 LJ for fun.
We downsized and moved into a condo. Didn't have a place to park 2 vehicles. Gladiator fills BOTH roles perfectly!
I've had my 2021 (with 6-speed) since September. Maybe I am biased as the 2005 Wrangler I traded in also had a 6-speed that I loved.
The Gladiator 6-Speed manual is better than the old one. Very happy with it. I suspect my mileage is a bit better with it as well. YMMV.
It does wander a bit. Not as bad as my 2005 Wrangler, but worse than my 2013 Frontier. Just pay attention and don't look while talk to your spouse and you will be fine.
I for one plan to drive it safely.
Beyond that, perhaps some mild off-roading. I bought it to replace a Wrangler and Frontier since we downsized and I only have one garage stall now. Stock Sport.
Ordered a manual Sport. Had it for a couple of months and like it. No plans to regear.
Of course, I bought Vlad (the Glad) primarily for snow and very mild off-roading (logging roads e.g.).
