this exactly. my 2015 canyon (that i traded in for my gladiator) was barely smaller than our old 2001 ram 1500. it's ridiculous how big full size pickups have become over the years.
i had my steering box replaced in november about 5.5k miles ago. over the last 2 weeks the steering loosened up significantly and i eventually had to hold at 11 o'clock to track straight. took it in yesterday and it turns out that the replacement box also failed. thankfully they had one on hand...

that's actually a new trim for the jl. i didn't know it existed until yesterday. it's beach-themed, but for whatever reason they stuck rock rails on it as one of the highlights/selling points.

don't get me wrong, i have zero opposition to mods. if someone paid for it, then they're entitled to do what they want with it. what's annoying are the pissing matches that happen when arguing features between trim levels when most people here will never use those features.
this thread is the perfect encapsulation of this forum: the usual insufferable know-it-alls, flailing justifications for why x was purchased over y, pissing matches about how much was paid, arguments about mods that will likely never be used, and completely irrelevant personal info.
the other advantage i've noticed is that the sunrider doesn't leak like the freedom panels do at the corners. i had a leak on each side right where your elbow rests on the window sill during really heavy rain with the panels. no issues since the sunrider went on.
i personally find that matte black works best on the flat colors: gator, sting-gray, and gobi (adds a nice pop of contrast and deepens the color-shift). metallics and pearls look better body-matched.
i went to a different dealership for service (river oaks jeep) and picked them for proximity and because they serve a fairly affluent area. you should try them for sure.
as a former miami resident, i can agree that a sunrider would come in handy if caught around town when a biweekly monsoon-esque summer sun shower hits out of nowhere.
happens in houston too, but thankfully not as frequently.
also, you don't burn the piss out of your hands if you want to take...
don't have to store the panels and you don't have to get out to do it. also can close it in a few seconds if rain comes out of nowhere. i didn't mind the freedom panels at first either, but i'll never go back now especially since i don't need to carry a protective bag around anymore.
also helps...
if you like how it drives then that's really up to you because the tsb is shockingly effective at changing how the vehicle feels (at least when done correctly). i didn't mind it either in hour-ish drives, but having to actively steer/correct on straights about 5 hours into a road trip from...
i'm entirely confident that your 100% honest dealership that is definitely not hoping for you to come back in a few years to buy another vehicle from their brand is not going to downplay a widespread problem as much as possible. nothing to see here, folks. you're all imagining the loose steering.
