My rock hard 4x4 winch mount plate tilts the winch forward 11 degrees which helped it not rub on my grille. The cables behind the control box are touching the grille but I don’t consider that a big deal. I could have moved the cables to the side but it’s mounted at this point so it is what it is.
One thing about this winch... It comes with a closed loop hook. If you intended on using closed system winch setup like with Factor 55 shackle mounts, you'll either have to resplice the synthetic rope or cut off the hook that comes with the smittybilt winch.

I have a rubicon I tow a 14ft enclosed trailer with. 3500lbs and 360lb tongue weight. In contrast to your experience, my JT actually tracks straighter with that load. The steering and handling are better. I don't know why and it's counter-intuitive but it was a nice surprise for me.
